I want a new hardwood front door

Where do I start, I have looked on B & Q, Wickes etc, but they vary so much in price. some doors are pre-hung? which are the more expensive.

I suppose I will have to get a carpenter to fit the door so so not want to go too expensive.

You should source a good carpenter (do you have on in mind already, personal recommendations for any trades are always the best way to go i think) and then ask their advice.

PreHung doors come in the frame so you would be replacing the door and the frame, this would require some additional work to remove the existing frame and you may need to get a plasterer in to tidy up around it after its been fitted

Usually these pre-hung doors come with multi point locking systems which are very secure.

If you have an existing frame which is in good enough condition then you can consider just buying the door, a good carpenter should be able to fit it to the existing frame.
