They've owned Oakwood for a good number of years now.

Tesco also own One Stop convenience stores, which are much more pricier than any of the types of Tescos out there.

They are not trading as Oakwood Distribution Ltd. If they were they would be Tesco Stores Ltd t/a Oakwood Distribution Ltd and that would be silly.

Oakwood Distribution Ltd is a subsidiary of Tesco Stores Ltd. There is nothing wrong with this and lots of companies do this. There is no obligation to state who owns the company except where obliged to in law (Companies House). For example a few years ago Ford Motors Inc owned Jaguar and Land Rover. They did not advertise as Ford Jaguar.

Isn't it even slightly more bizarre that we are talking about dvds and games here, which are supplied by Tesco Entertainment, which is a white label operation run for Tesco by The Hut. (Or so I remember.) So isn't it the case of Tesco t/a Oakwoood competing with The Hut t/a Tesco?

How ironic it is that [STRIKE]Daily Mail[/STRIKE] This Is Money run an article about a company trying to pass itself off with a different name.

Nothing wrong but it does give the impression that people are buying from a different company. Some people are more ethical shoppers and want to encourage other suppliers/competition whilst maybe bagging a bargain

The Hut is not a Tesco company, but effectively a supplier to Tesco supplying some / a fair part of the range (mostly back-catalogue stuff I suspect)

Not 100% sure, but Oakwood I believe was a distributor once owned by woolworths, but who supplied Tesco (and some other retailers). When woolies got into trouble, Tesco bought them out in order to maintain the supply chain.

The merchandisers who go into Tesco stores to update the book, CD, DVD and video game charts and put the entertainment stock out work for Oakwood rather than Tesco.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Tesco entertainment doesn't appear to be fulfilled by TheHut any longer, the distributor owned by Woolworths was EUK and it seems Oakwood was just set up by Tesco as a subsidiary of Tesco rather than purchased by them.

Most people buying media on Amazon are just looking at the price and the DM story is twaddle, who says Tesco have to sell at the same price in different places? The point of a brand is the power to convince the consumer to spend as much as possible. On Amazon this is limited by their prices and tough competition, selling under the Tesco brand there may devalue the brand so it makes perfect sense.

entertainment uk was the distributor owned by woolworths and they used to have a contract with tesco, however they lost it to a company called handlemans uk. handlemans were about to go into liquidation so in order to maintain stock on their shelves they bought the company and renamed it oakwood distribution. oakwood is a seperately run company which is totally owned by tesco,
