Keyboard and touch pad not working on laptop

Morning all,the keyboard and touch pad on my Sony Vaio (7 Pro 64 bit) are not responding. I normally use a separate keyboard and mouse so I'm not sure when this happened.

I notice that the left touch pad button cannot be depressed, not sure if this may be affecting things.

Has anyone got any suggestions please?

First thing to do would be to boot from a Linux LiveCD and see if the keyboard works from that. This should rule out a software/driver problem.

Some BIOS check the keyboard/mouse during POST - it's possible that if the mouse button is jammed down the keyboard and mouse have been detected as faulty and disabled.

Thanks, good idea, I've used things like knoppix and puppy linux in the past to try similar things
