I'm sure my local bank staff would be delighted to sign copies of the originals and declare it is a true likeness of me on my driving licence, especially when I was withdrawing a large sum from their bank!
Perhaps the local estate agent would also sign a statement if I promised him 'first dibs' if and when I sold my house.
My O.H. was at the doctors surgery today with acute conjunctivitis, blast, he could have got him to sign the statement, before writing out the prescription.
'Just blow into this bag , Sir.'
'Certainly Officer but before I do, can you just sign this photocopy of my driving license before it is confiscated'
Sally your post just about sums it up 100%>
I have to agree, in this day and age it is madness to have to send all this stuff, in my case sometimes impossible for in the case of my wife and myself neither of us has a passport and only I have a driving licence and household bills are in my name.
You can imagine how difficult it is for my wife to open accounts if they don't do it electronically, I even went to the trouble of getting my wife a provisional driving licence with her photo on; not for driving but for ID purposes, imagine my total despair when I was told by one institution that they would only accept a full licence!
For gods sake what does it matter if she has passed her test or not for her to open a blooming savings account!0 -
Now that Yorkshire/Clydesdale withdrew their 4.3% 3-year bond, it looks like this is the best 3-year deal around. According to my calculations, the AER for the C&G bond is 4.25%.0

Since the C&G is a division of LTSB, why can't I go into my local LLoyds and get my identity verified there? They could just copy the necessary info and fax it through.
How easy that would be for potential investors.
Perhaps all disgruntled posters should tell the C&G this, probably make no difference at all but would make me feel better:D0 -
Since there is no e-mail address for them, go onto their website and in the top right, click on Ask a question.
Ask about electronic verification, which obviously there is no answer for, you can then type in your suggestion or query and send it to them.
Alternatively ring on 0800 028 0639 for the same service.
Me? I've directed them to this thread. I live in hope0 -
Now that Yorkshire/Clydesdale withdrew their 4.3% 3-year bond.......
Things not looking too bright for them according to this below:
"The Australian owner of the Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank is looking for options to sell or radically reform the businesses.....NAB has announced a review of Clydesdale and Yorkshire, to reposition them and improve returns, often seen as a prelude to a sale."

Hi,
Does anyone know if at the end of the three year bond the funds can be transferred electronically?
The info provided only shows that at the end of the period a cheque is sent through the post.
I am not comfortable with a cheque through the post.
Thanks0 -
C&G maturity instructions usually allow for cheque, transfer to another C&G account and transfer to a Lloyds TSB account.Hi,

Allowing funds to be sent to a sort code and account number that they've never verified is probably much higher risk than sending a cheque in the post from a fraud perspective.0 -
Just received my application form today.
Rather put off by some of the rather intrusive questions about my income, savings , investments, monthly outgoings etc and was about to bin the whole idea.
However, apart from the 0845 no that is given on their website the accompanying letter gave 01733 347 171 an an alternate number.
I rang, pressed option 2 and was connected immediately.
a very helpful member of staff told me I needn't fill in that whole section, also to just print and then sign your name in the specimen signature box, nothing else.
I also told her about my annoyance about having to physically verify my identity.
Guess what? I was told I could go into my local branch of LLoydsTSB and they would photcopy my relevant documents and verify them!
They did this with no problem. Typical, that's what I was having a rant about earlier in this thread!
Shame they couldn't have added that to their website.
I hope this info will help any others who were thinking of discounting this offer because of verification problem.0 -
Have opened one of these, posted off verification copies (stamped etc by my local LLoydsTSB)
Posted off on Monday in supplied Ist class envelope and received certificate type confirmation today with the account opened yesterday.
Not bad especially since you receive interest on the account from when your application and cheque reach them.
The only thing I can't find is when the annual interest is actually paid, I'd like to think it is on the anniversary but this isn't always the case as have found with other fixed term deposits/bonds.
Anyone know offhand before I ring them?0
