Cars with no lights

I was going at 60, in complete darkness apart from my lights. If I was close enough to be able to see the black car in front of me then I would have been far too close. (Especially as I was going at 60, and he had just pulled out from a side road, so going 30ish). The shadow that I saw was because of my lights so I got pretty close to this person.
So you were driving too fast for the conditions?0 -

What conditions? Nighttime?
You don't need to slow down just because it is dark. I was driving at the speed limit like I do every day and so does everyone else. If the car in front had been using his lights, then I would have been able to see him properly.
Because it is a country road, there are no people that I need to watch out for and bikes need to use lights. So I don't know what other conditions you are talking about? There was no rain, ice, snow, fog or anything.0 -
One of my pet hates people who drive with no lights, but in a built up area with good street lighting and lots of traffic, are the people who drive with headlights. And don't even get me started on the idiots with rear fog lights when it's clear.
Some cars have automatic headlights , mine come on when the light is fading or sometimes if I drive under a bridge or through the shadow of an house etc etc.0 -
I`ve been working in Leicestershire today and it was really foggy. At times I could see no more than 100 yards whilst on 60mph roads, I lost count of the number of cars coming towards me with no lights on at all. I`m not sure if these people are just dead in the head or plain stupid. I had my fog lights on at all times as I value my life
I remember last year there was a day it was foggy and I saw a number of police cars on the road driving around with no lights on. A couple of them were traffic which makes it even worse, they are meant to set an example. I see alot of really bad driving by the police
Don`t get me started on cyclists with no lights!0 -

During half-light conditions, side lights are much less of a contrast than dipped headlights, therefore you're less visible. Thinking about it your pupils will be slightly smaller in half-light than full darkness therefore (when using dipped headlights in) you're less likely to blind other drivers (than when it is fully dark).
Last week when it was frosty but also sunny in the morning, I had my headlights on as I have little faith that other drivers will de-ice their windscreen and side windows before setting off......0 -
Those who dont use the headlights when clearly its dark will get they're whats coming at some point0

Nor it is advisable to have full lights in the fog - your beam will just bounce off the fog. Foglights plus sidelights is preferable.
Are you so sure it's you that's got it right?
yes I agree with this, you don't need full lights on if it's not dark. I think it's you whose wrong I'm afraid OP rather than everyone else.0 -
Not sure if its a coincidence but I have seen a few cars lately with no rear lights on but going past them the front ones are on?0
