Help! My dishwasher has stopped working!!

Hi all
This evening i went to turn on my dishwasher and it will not work. The programme light comes on but when you close the door, nothing. It normally makes a sound after a couple of seconds and then the water starts to flow but this time, no sound at all.
Its a intergrated hotpoint one and its almost 3 years old.
Does it sound like the motor has gone? And do you think it would be worth getting an engineer out to look at it or should we just get another one?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Check the supply side and filter for blockages/links.
Of course it's worth getting it checked, it may be a very minor problem that is easily fixed- a dishwasher should last far more than 3 years (even a Hotpoint).
Being integrated does make things much more complicated of course. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Check there's no water in the tray underneath. Theres an antiflood float switch down there which shuts off all power if the tray fills up. Theres another one inside the machine if the outlet pipe the other side of the filters blocks.

Thanks for replys. I thought it could be the door sensor so i have got hubby on the case.
Any more thoughts?0 -
Hi Keystone. There is water in the tray underneath where you clean the filter which collects all the food bits. Is this what you mean? If so, how do i get rid of the water?0

Is there any error message?
Check to see if anything has stopped the dish trays from fully going into the body of the dishwasher. I had a spoon stick out beyond the side one day and mine failed to work too. So I just opened it up and had a good look to see if I could spot anything. Has worked OK since (apart from OH failing to clear old food from saucepans and it blocked drain up) But that's another story. I also check the water arms that shower the dishes to make sure they are not blocked. They should pull off easily and you can look at the little holes. Unblock with tweezers. Clean drain out each time. Once you have checked all that, re close and see if anything happens. If not then google your model of dishwasher and see if there is anything else that could be at fault. If you get an idea of fault, then you can call repairer out and let them know suspected problem and they should be able to get part before they arrive, thus saving time on the labour bill. DIY repairs can be easy and save plenty of dosh. We did both the wash/tumbler during last year. Simply looked up parts bought off Ebay and got instructions and fitted new bits - cost to us £40 or so. Hate to think of the cost with repair/call out. But if you do go that route, make sure you unplug switch off mains supply.

No, there is no error messages at all and dishwasher is competely empty. Since its intergrated, can i still unscrew it all and pull it out? Also how do i makesure the outlet pipe is not blocked?0

Inside the machine? If so bale it out with a mug. The "tray" I referred to is actually outside and below the machine and is part of the chassis. To get to it you probably need to remove the plinth. Make sure the volts are off when you do it. I find the only effective way of clearing it to use a small sponge to suck up the water and squeeze it out into a bucket. This is because space is very restricted down there and there is only just enough room to get your hand in.smellymel222 wrote: »Hi Keystone.
