Please bear with me ...
7 years ago when I was 18 I went off to uni and due to personal reasons I left quarter way through year 2 of the course. I had the student loan through the first year and part of the second year. I didn't get my degree.
I'm now in a whole different position and I really really really want to go back and get my degree but I'm totally lost with how to finance it.
I'm a single parent of 2 children (1 is disabled) on benefits. I really want to give my children a solid future and I really want to do something for me. I know there's so many years of funding available for uni but I really don't understand how it works. I'm also aware that because I'm on benefits there are grants available but again I have no idea what they are and how/when to apply. I've read that some grants cancel out the other etc and I really don't understand how it works. I have rang the university and they didn't seem to have a clue about what I would be entitled to, it seems nobody has a clue when I mention my previous study. Any help would be really appreciated as I'd really like to get started as soon as possible.
Thanks

You usually get the length of the course + 1 year so if you're studying a 3 year BSc/BA you get 3 years funding plus one false start.
I think you'd be counted as already having 2 years funding so you'll be entitled to 2 further years of funding.
However if you can show you left during your second year due to extenuating circumstances (for example ill health, family problems...) then you may get your previous study discounted giving you full funding again.
This includes tuition loan, maintanence loan and grant, and potentially a parents learning allowance and childcare grant.

Funding is different for a part-time degree, or a distance learning degree with the Open University.0
