Employment agency won't pay up

In my previous job I worked as a senior repairs consultant for a housing association - I was made redundant from this company! (Which was clearly stated in my cv) an employment agency called me about a job I had applied for in housing however they were waiting for feedback from the employers but a job all of a sudden had come up to work in a housing calls centre! Which I was reluctant to take on as it was a massive step down for me! But I said yes I am a single mum and been on jsa for 3months and times were getting hard and the redundancy money was coming to an end! I stated the Job without an interview and I made it aware to the temping agency and the team leaders in the call centre this is something I did 4yrs ago and I need more of a challenge as I am a born problem solver! They knew this was not a permant role for me and I would continue to work on a temping basis. I worked there for a full week and 3 days! I then had a call from another employer in regards to a job that was best suited for me, and I was to start then the next day as I had been to an interview which I had passed! I wanted this job as it was a job I had experience in and knowledge and knew I could make a difference. Anyway I told the stupid ( who didn't read my cv but just saw me as a money making machine for their own selfish ways) employment agency I wasn't returning back to their job- I read the terms and conditions and I didn't need to give them any notice but they would like 1 week notice ( but this is not in the terms and conditions). They were really rude when I told them but I had little sympathy for them as they clearly were all uneducated people as they didn't read my cv correctly as they put me in a job that I I'd four years ago! Anyway they are now ignoring my emails for my remaining pay which was 1 day and my holiday pay! Please someone give me some advice on what I should do! I think I am owed it for doing this work for them! I need legal advice as I want this money! I Want to name and shame this agency and the !!!! I am dealing with! Please someone help me!!

To be quite honest, if you were as abusive and nasty to me as an employer as you are coming over on your post, I'd be hanging on to your money for the longest possible time.
Go and see the CAB or a solicitor if you need legal advice.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I am not being abusive just really fustrated! You probably haven't had much dealing with temping agencies! I wish I could have the same experience with them like you I haut hate this one as they seem to be the only agency who don't care about the people they find work for!!! I have not been nothing but calm and professional in all my emails sent to them! But I venting not his forum because I can or I will punch a wall!!!0

They were really rude??
You didnt really say that did you? Really? You were the unemployed one, what you did four years ago is not even relevant.
Send them a letter totalling outstanding amount owed.0 -
I think it does. Why would someone want to move down in their career when they were on a high! Maybe I have ambitions and won't settle for second best! why should I?? I know my capabilities are beyond a call centre!
A letter is already typed and being sent to the directors!0 -

You answered that in your opening post.0 -
I said yes for the money - when you have a child you would do anything to povide for them! Anyway are you hear to critise or provide advise! This is an advice forum!
Are you an employment agency consultant?0 -
I haven't criticised. I can think of a million reasons why people might downshift their career for what it is worth, and as you stated in your first post that you took the job, I am at a loss as to why you think it is ok to speak to employees at the agency in this way.. I suggested you write a letter, you state you have done, nothing more to be said in terms of advice until we know their reply. Anything else is jumping the gun somewhat. If the reply is not satisfactory then someone may be able to provide next legal steps you could take. I am sure you have googled non payment of wages in the meantime so won't post a link.
And no, not an employment consultant and never have been. Don't understand why you are asking that.0 -

Agencies normally pay on a weekly basis, so did you work two days one week and then a full week (hours in both weeks having been paid) and then one day the next week which is outstanding plus 0.9656 of a day holiday pay?
Or are they withholding money for some other reason? If they aren't answering emails, what do they say when you phone?
Did you get your timesheet for the final period signed by the client?0 -

Yup. There's a lot of that about these days, I'm afraidFreespeach wrote: »(Which was clearly stated in my cv)
What was?Freespeach wrote: »an employment agency called me about a job I had applied for in housing however they were waiting for feedback from the employers but a job all of a sudden had come up to work in a housing calls centre!
Yay! Paid work! Bet you were glad about that?Freespeach wrote: »Which I was reluctant to take on as it was a massive step down for me!
Okay, maybe not.....Freespeach wrote: »But I said yes I am a single mum and been on jsa for 3months and times were getting hard and the redundancy money was coming to an end!
Yup. Money's a big motivator.Freespeach wrote: »I stated the Job without an interview
That's fairly standard, the employer tends to make the agencies work for their fees and rely on them to security clear/vet/interview employees for themFreespeach wrote: »and I made it aware to the temping agency and the team leaders in the call centre this is something I did 4yrs ago and I need more of a challenge as I am a born problem solver!
You went in there telling them the work was beneath you and at the first sign of a better offer you were going to be off. I bet they loved you.
The job of the temp worker is to make the agency look good, not put peoples' backs up before you've been shown where the toilets are.Freespeach wrote: »They knew this was not a permant role for me and I would continue to work on a temping basis.
Yup. That's temping for you.Freespeach wrote: »I worked there for a full week and 3 days!
Glory be! A whole 8 days! That was big of you.Freespeach wrote: »I then had a call from another employer in regards to a job that was best suited for me, and I was to start then the next day as I had been to an interview which I had passed! So, how about negotiating for a start for the following week so that you could give the agency some warningFreespeach wrote: »Anyway I told the stupid ( who didn't read my cv but just saw me as a money making machine for their own selfish ways) employment agency I wasn't returning back to their job- I read the terms and conditions and I didn't need to give them any notice but they would like 1 week notice ( but this is not in the terms and conditions).
I hope you didn't talk to them they way you're talking to us. 'Cos coupled with the attitude you displayed when you took on the temp job, that would have generated a lot of bad feeling.....Freespeach wrote: »They were really rude when I told them
Oh. There's me wrong again......Freespeach wrote: »but I had little sympathy for them as they clearly were all uneducated people as they didn't read my cv correctly as they put me in a job that I I'd four years ago!
Of course, your spelling and grammar are so far beyond reproach you could give lessons, I suppose?
They're stupid? Please don't tell us that's how you spoke to them. They are technically your employer and may be asked to give a reference.......Freespeach wrote: »Anyway they are now ignoring my emails for my remaining pay which was 1 day and my holiday pay!
Frankly, I don't blame them.Freespeach wrote: »Please someone give me some advice on what I should do!
Give it up. One days pay and eight days worth of accrued holiday pay isn't all that much - put it down as the forfeit you paid for not giving a week's notice.Freespeach wrote: »I think I am owed it for doing this work for them! You've got a good job, you're owed so little money that's it's not worth seeking expensive legal advice and the way you've spoken to and about them isn't likely to breed any goodwill.
Give it up. Put it down to experience, forget the agency and get on with your new job. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0
