Bought second hand car today and within a half an hour the engine warning light came on, car then went into limp home mode which I did !

So I have emailed the garage as he was closed stating the problem and that if the warrenty didnt cover the repair cost then I would be asking him for the money refunded on repairs / parts, I intend to get it to my local dealer tomorrow to find out exactly what the probelm is and how much it'll cost, shall also ring the warrenty company up when I get the diagnostics back to see if they'll cough up.

If they dont then I suppose its get the work done and persue the garage under sale of goods act ?

I dont want to take car back as apart from this fault the car is in great condition and is exactly what I want.

Ring the dealer up on monday morning first thing and explain whats happened. They are obliged to fix it. Dont take it elsewhere at this stage.

Only problem there is the dealer is miles away from where I live ! so not really an option.

Yes, but you need to give them the option to fix it.
  • What is it with people buying second hand cars on here lately. They threaten to reject the car even before it's even been driven it seems! ;)

Funny that cuz I get the impression he was driving it when the engine warning light came on. And so he should be thinking of rejecting it, too many bent garages/salesmen out to rip people off.

Read the threads on here were the dealer is "fixing " it.
Weeks later, still in the garage, customer without any car, and the dealer not answering the phone any more.

At least if you reject it, you can move on and buy a working one.
