Why do you need a bank and credit card reg on ebay?

Hi

Can someone please confirm when I joined ebay I had to give my bank account and credit card details. I understand the bank acc is if I need to pay funds in or out of my acc, but why the credit card?

It was not to be verified as I am unverified at present.

On a seperat enote, even though I gave a credit card to register it still asks me to add one to be verified, (along with a d/d for my bank acc and something else about how much my turnover etc is) why is that?

You need to give them your credit card details so they can check (if they need to) that you are who you say you are. You don't have to set up a D/D if you don't want to. When you enter your credit card details when signing up, it is purely for identity purposes - no charges are made. I think you don't need to give them as much info if you are just a buyer, but you need to give them more data if you want to sell.
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)

    Hi there

I have just HAD to set up a DD. Once you have spent £500 through them then this is what they ask you to do.

I also have been confirmed of my address (they phone your house) and verified recently. I had to do all this to stop them srnding out echeques, I wanted instant payment and they stopped that once I had breeched the £500.

i assume they wnat a cc too..... If you not have funds in the current account or your card details go out of date, they would still get the money.

I think you are talking about Paypal? The OP asked about why eBay takes your c/c details

I think it's because you have probably registered with an @hotmail.com or @yahoo.com email address (or some other free/unverified email service). For example if it were an @ntlworld.com email address, or some other more trusted domain, no CC details would be required. That's my guess anyway..

I used a @blueyonder.co.uk email address, not hotmail or any other instantly disposble one. Has this happened to others where they have had to register a bank and credit card?

I am not concernced s such, but just curious as to why the credit card if they have the bank
