Buster Block Worktop

Am about to order a Magnet kitchen ( new "Savannah" cream gloss Shaker style) and like the Buster Block worktop but am a bit nervous ordering as it is very striking (and stripey)
Has anyone got this worktop and what are your views please?
Also, am really unsure what flooring to put with it. Obviously it would have to be a bit plain or it would fight with it. Was thinking either cream or "slatey" grey.
Any views or ideas appreciated.

Butchers block is the name, a good top well looked after will look like new in ten years. IF LOOKED AFTER.
You have to oil the top in the recommended way and times. Also make sure it is oiled before it is installed and protected above appliances.
If you don't mind a little maintenance then it will give you years service.0 -

No, actually it is called Buster Block and it's a laminate worktops that looks like this:

Therefore it requires no oiling, no sanding and pretty much no maintenance.
Anyhoooos to answer the OP - it is a rather bold worktop, but I've used it around 10 or 12 kitchens and it's always looked great.
In fact, I have a kitchen lined up to be installed in May that is using the Buster Block worktop with the Savannah kitchen.
I do think you should stick with something a little plainer on the floor, although not sure if grey is the right option and to be honest, maybe cream isn't either? Personally I'd be looking at picking one of the colours out of the worktop and using that on the floor. Amtico do some really nice light woods that would go very well with it...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thanks Meepster, That's exactly the one!
I have an L shaped kitchen and the worktop on one side measures 2900mm with a sink inset into it. (I wondered if it would appear too long!) The other side is a bit smaller.
I am not a person who has a lot of "clutter" on the worktop or I wouldn't consider it.
I know what you mean about grey flooring - not really the right colour, it's more browny.
I did like some of the Amtico flooring but was unsure of the cost of it. Also, most of the wood patterns are "striped" again and the Tile patterns are "square". Worried about too many patterns!
I think I will go for plain cream tiles for splashback etc!!!!
The other worktop I quite liked was the Mid Walnut block (Premium range) but this gives the kitchen a more traditional feel than the Buster Block.
Can you recommend any particular floor pattern and cabinet handles etc that go well with the kitchen? I have got to the point where I can't see the wood for the trees so any input is welcome.0 -

Did you not consider the Italian Walnut worktop? That what I'm putting on the display in my showroom, looks amazing with the Savannah range! Mid Walnut is a little plain for my liking and would make it look more traditional.
As for handles, well again you need to be careful which you choose so that you don't make it too traditional. Of the 5 Savannahs I've sold so far this year, I've done two of the them with "Square Steel Knob" (No 8 in the brochure) one with "Chunky Bar Handle" (No 43) one with "Square D 2 in 1" (No 78) and one with "Chunky Tube Handles" (Nos 52-55). maybe on of those jumps out at you?
I always think when going with a wood effect worktop, wooden planks look the best, with a colour that blends with the worktop, nothing worse than conflicting colours. However a darker cream colour would go very nicely too, all depends on whether you stick with the Buster Block worktops or not.
With regards to the Amtico, just ask them to cost it up for you and let me know what they say, and I'll let you know if you are getting the best price or not

I did look at the Italian Walnut worktop but because my kitchen is North facing with just one 4 ft window and glass door, I thought it might look a bit dark.
I did want to keep it more modern than traditional but at the same time, I like the warmness of the Walnut (thought the mid walnut was a bit lighter colour)
I keep going from "cool" Modern" (buster block) to "warm" classic (Walnut) On cold days like this, the Walnut wins. By tonight, I will have changed my mind again.
With the Buster block, I picked the "Tube "steel Handles. What would you put with the Walnut to keep it modern? I don't mind "Classic" just don't want to go Traditional.
I do have a builder who is pricing up everything but I havn't mentioned the Amtico yet.
Thank you! for being so helpful, I just ned to make some decisions.0 -
Have decided to go with Walnut because it is warm looking.
Answered my own question really (with your help Meepster!) when I said it was a North facing room and might be too dark. I realized, that was the thing bothering me with the Buster block, that it was cold looking and darker than the Walnut.
Just one more question if you don't mind - If I go wood on the floor as well, do you think the flooring should be darker than worktops or does it not matter as long as the shade is right?0 -

Glad you've (finally lol) decided.
It doesn't really matter too much if the flooring is darker, however personally I'd be picking one of the middle wooden colours from the worktop and matching with that. This way you'll have a pretty neutral colour on the floor, and wont have any issues in matching any other furniture of accessories with it.If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

oh so glad I came across this, I too am just about to order from magnet, I've gone for the nero range (black) high gloss, and i too love the buster block worktop so am going for that. I dont know what floor to have, will it be quite dark as im going for black doors. Meepster my builder is getting me my kitchen through trade, will this be the same but cheaper? Any advice would be fantastic.
