building insurance question leak in unoccupied property
jee
If your property is unoccupied because of decorating and there is a leak from upstairs which has damaged quite a bit of your ceiling and floor from the water, can you claim building insurance when the flat upstairs has been vacant for a while?
The freeholder is a private company and owns many of the flats in the road.
The water that came down smelled like it was a slow leak that has built up over time.
Thanks for any advice!

Block building insurance should cover it. You'll have to go via the MA. It shouldn't matter that your property is also unoccupied.

Depends on the definition of 'unoccupied'.
I don't mean your definition, i mean the definition provided in the insurance policy document.
They vary considerably. And also some impose conditions (like maintaing the heating on etc) which alter the terms of 'unoccupied cover'.
Or as suggested, your block policy may cover all 'unoccupied' properties.
As none of us here can read your policy, we cannot answer your question.0
