I'd get in there with a can of air and address the cause of the overheating, maybe dust build up.No free lunch, and no free laptop

It might still be OK. If you've fixed the fan speed at 45% it could be overheating when you are doing intensive 2D/3D rendering. Fan speed is usually a trade-off between heat and noise. Try fixing the speed at 100% and, ignoring the noise, see how the card performs. You should be able to read the card temp with EVGA Precision. You're ideally looking for the temp staying below 80C at full load. If it is OK, try setting the fan speed to automatically ramp up/down with increasing/decreasing temp. I typically set mine to 40% at 40C, linearly increasing to 100% at 70C.604!0

thank you for replying..i am using EVGA precision and the GPU temperature is always around 65C with fan at 30% automatic even at full load...I am using it now and it is fine but i know that it could crash any minute....how can i set the fan through EVGA precison to automatically ramp up/down with temperature? when i choose automatic it always goes to 30%...Also I am worried as the GPU usage on EVAG precision is showing as 0% even when I am surfing the internet0

Hi - I understood that Nvidia has had probs with the 9000 series, we have changed a couple recently (as a firm we can't afford to give machines back that just fail again).
We use speedfan to measure temps/fan speeds etc, probably similar to EVGA.
Also in some case we have re-applied thermal grease to improve heat transfer, also have changed fans in other cases.
However my gut feel is that there is a problem with the Nvidia graphics 9000 series cards.
Don't know yr budget, but from what you have said so far, a couple of ATI cards would do the job for a reasonable price HD5570 @£70, or the HD6850 @ £150.
Others may have other suggestions, but best to give a budget, and what you'd like it to do.0 -
thanks for the suggestions..I have managed to make the fan work automatically depending on the temperature and this is keeping temp. below 60C but i dont know for how long this will work!!!could the fan be damaged if being on high speed for long times? I guess i should start shopping for another card before this one dies completely...I am not into gaming so I am hoping to get a descent card for less than £500
