There's been a few threads on here recently where posters have abruptly found out they haven't been insured.
Spend a minute or two checking the database to make sure you're all legal, and the car details are correct.
I usually run ours through when ever I see a thread on it, but maybe you don't need to do it that frequently!

Does anyone know if an insurance company can enter policy details on the MID prior to the start date of the new policy ?
I ask because I have agreed to a 7 day complimentary insurance policy from a car dealer so they can tax it in my name, but my main policy only changes to the new car after the 7 day complimentary cover period, so when will askmid show the new car as being insured ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The 7 day one may never show on askmid (insurers have 7 days to pass on the info to the MID).
Keep your cert with you till askmid shows you are covered.
(It doesn't show cover in place "in advance")0 -
Second tip: Always carry your insurance documents with you in the car.
That way, as long as your policy is valid, the police cannot legally seize your vehicle even if askmid.com or even your insurance company's call centre incorrectly inform the police that you are uninsured.
This is written into the legislation itself http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/165A - [conditions a) and b) and c) must ALL be satisfied for a seizure] and confirmed by recent case law
