thats a good idea about simmering the chicken, will try that. He doesnt like the bath but thats a good idea - i lke that one..

He has taken up residence under our bed. He looks so sorry for himself. He had a thorn in his eye and it had repured the layers. Not sure if he will loose the eye yet but im praying he doesnt. He is such a wonderful dog, he is 5 and 7 months. He has not banged into so much furniture this afternoon and has been out to have a wee and pooh so thats good i think.

The vet was very insistent that he doesnt get the collar off as one scratch to the eye and thats it...

Thanks everyone for your replies. Its so nice to feel like someone else it there as this is so horrible xxx

What about a bottle of water with a sports cap? You can squirt the water in from above so the cone shouldn't make any difference. One of my dogs loves drinking from these.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you too that he doesn't have to have his eye out, but, if he did, don't worry too much about it. Although not a nice thought, its not the end of the world.

I noticed a blob on the eye of my last dog, it sort of looked a bit like a tick on his eyeball. I took him to the vet who sent us to an eye specialist. The 'blob' turned out to be a tumour and he had to have his eye removed.
It didn't really make too much difference to him, he certainly didn't seem to bother about it. He obviously couldn't see on that side so I had to watch him when out walking that he didn't walk into things on that side, but it didn't slow him down at all when he was running around. He got used to going through doors etc. in the house without bumping into them.
He was a Boxer with a black face and when the eye was stitched up it wasn't too noticeable but when people did notice it, he used to play on the symppathy. It didn't look nasty at all, just looked like his eye was shut.

Hope it doesn't come to that though. xx

I feed my dog the water I've boiled his chicken in. I also used a wide bowl and held it for him when he wore a collar.

    It's horrible when they're ill. :(
Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.

Awww, he'll be fine, whatever happens. Dogs can manage exceptionally well with just one eye. My cat managed with next to no sight for years, then she got cataracts and went blind - she still managed, perfectly happily, to climb furniture and throw herself onto my chest from a height of 7 foot.

Look on it as positively as you can - your DH doesn't have Huntingdons, which must be a great relief for you, the dog will be fine, whether with one or two eyes - it's because you've been under so much stress with your OH, being investigated for horrible illnesses such as that (is he unwell, too?), that something that would normally be worrying but manageable has overwhelmed you.

Your crying is getting at least some of the emotions you've held in to keep things going, out in the open.

Are you getting any support yourself? You're obviously dealing with a lot at the moment, and you are entitled to help too. Perhaps you need to see your GP and chat about the pressure you're under and they could offer advice or refer you for additional support.

Accidents can't be helped. He'll be OK. Make sure you are OK, though, as you are important too.

jo-jo, yes my husband is not well with very bad headaches hence the brain scan waiting for the results, should be this week, they are ready but the consultant wont give them out over the phone. Huntingdons issue has been going on since sept but we had good news about that. My son had a bad rugby accident 14 months ago and is waiting for another op and is doing his gcse's this year... i could go on... to be honest im really not good at looking after myself.. im tired of everything really so so tired. Now we have the issue with my dog. I know he will be fine if it does come down to one eye its just im worried about this blooming plastic collar coming off. Thanks for the post.xx

Scaredy cat, i will look at the link, thank you xx
