Help/Advice with 3rd party hit and run please
Hi
Someone crashed into me recentley but drove away without stopping.I have reported it to the police who are not intrested at all due to the fact i was not physically hurt.I have passed the reg details on to my insurance company who have asked me to get a quote for the damage, also they have sent a assessor round, but the 3rd party insurance is unwilling to accept responsibility. And my insurance company has not yet heard from my witness who was in my vehicle at the time.Ive heard the 3rd party says they were not involved in any crash and there is no damage to their vehicle, i have confirmed to my insurance that there is damage to their vehicle and have e mailed photo's of their damage to them. after a while i was told that the 3rd party insurance is still not accepting liability, and as my witness has not responded to varius calls and letters they will be closing down the case,so as things stand they said if i want my car fixed i will have to claim on my own ins policy.
Not willing to accept this,my boss has managed to contact the witness who says they are still willing to give evidence and that they have a apointment booked with my insurance company (quoting the correct name) the next day i spoke to my ins company to explain my witness has a appointment with one of your reps in a couple of days, they replied they dont visit witness's only contact them via phone and post so they can send a witness statement back. so its a mystery who the apt is with ???? a couple of days later i saw the witness who says he had a apt recently with my ins company again (quoting the correct name) he says he filled all the forms out ,had to draw a diagram etc signed it all and said hopefully the ins will sort everything out now. the guy who visited him was there for apx 45 mins, said he only lives round the corner, specifically asked if my witness has had any contact with me, and said the 3rd party was accusing me of crashing into them,(which is news on me as origionally they claim there is no damage to thier vehicle) he also told my witness its pretty conclusive that the 3rd party was at fault and its unlikely you'll hear any more of this and left. my witness is genuine and i have no reason to disbelive him. next day my insurance still dismisses it was them who visited my witness, they say it sounds like the 3rd party ins has visited him but they deny they obtained my witnesses details from them which would only leave the police. So what the hell is going on ? who was it ? what do i do ? this country appears to be more corrupt than the middle east!

For starters what have the police done?
Fail to stop and report is an offence.0 -
You should have insisted the Police gave you an incident report number. They cannot refuse to do this if requested. Any lack of follow up then shows against their statistics .

I flagged a police patrol car down straight after the incident who followed the hit and run car at apx 4/5 cars behind even tho the car was trapped in traffic the officer behind the wheel done nothing untill the hit and run car came to a dual carrigeway which then booted it avaiding the officer. This is the Police report so basically got away on the day incidentley ran at least 2 red lights aswell as failing to stop and report a inccident. I drove to my local station to explain/report what had happened,so i do have a crime/inccident number. After a week or so they say please contact your insurance company as they can do no more for me ,basically as no one was physically injured. So now im in the situation mentioned above, atleast i know how things work now!0

So he failed to stop at the scene of an accident, failed to exchange details, failed to stop for a police officer in a patrol car and the police have "done nothing?"
If what you've said is accurate you should consider speaking with the Professional Standards department of your force.
If he did run two red lights, he should receive two NIPs in the post which will require him to name the driver at the time listed on the NIP. I don't know whether the police would release that name to you but it would serve as useful evidence as to who was driving that vehicle. This assumes of course that the vehicle is registered.0 -
the 2 red lights were jumped before i flagged the copper down but i would of thought what id told the copper would have been enough to attempt to pull him over straight away without hesitation whilst he was stuck in traffic not wait till they get to a dual carrigeway to escape "USELESS" i have sent a disatisfied letter to my countys head office who have further investigated but are satisfied that they have done everything they can. origional letter reads,
this incident has not met the necessary criteria to be investigated further, and therefore will be screened out for no further action to be taken by this force. please refer this matter to your insurers or legal advisor for them to pursue a claim.
i bet it would meet the correct criteria if it effected one of thier own!0 -
Ask for a copy of the collision report.0

just a quick update and hopefully a conclusion to this matter. my ins company rang today to explain they did send a rep out to visit my witness and that everything is in order to get the 3rd party to admit liability,so my car should hopefully be repaired before xmas lol . thanks for your input as i thought i'd come up against a brick wall.0
