Never been happy with this piece of kit from new - the instruction manual might just of easily been printed in chinese. Never known a remote to work so slowly (despite new batteries) - press button nothing happens for 10 sec or so, and often nothing happens at all BUT the biggest bug bear of all is that there is a facility to record to the hard drive in 5 modes MLP lowest picture quality EP low quality, LP = slightly lower than SP, SP standard quality and XP = highest picture quality.
I always have it set to SP - annoyingly without any interference from me the unit often switches/defaults back to MLP, which whilst provides umpteen hours of viewing it no earthly good as the picture quality is so poor you cannot watch it !!
Thought we would watch a few films last night (as nothing on tv on a Sat as everyone knows) 80% of the films I have stored at different times were unwatchable as they had defaulted to a MLP recording.
Apart from chucking the thing in the bin and buying a different manufacturer anyone got any thoughts as to what is going wrong with the player. Can confirm it is NOT an operator fault

Without knowing your model, have you attempted to install the latest firmware?0
-
The model number is RHT497H - not sure what you mean by firmware, so hoping you will tell me !!0

Firmware is the software on which the machine runs on. It typically gets updated every so often.
There appears to be an update, but only if you phone and ask for the CD on 017534913000
