and what is wrong with it being means tested?
i am realy fed up of the view of some that the world owes them.
i get cwp when they are actioned and iv applied for the 120 pounds rebate in march too, and i am thankful for qualifying for those.
but all i keep hearing on here recently is more and more people wanting benefits for everyone.
ref disabled people, they get a disability premium. what is that for? some also get an enhanced premium and a severe disability premium. what are they for? what is their esa for? the premiums have to be for something.... and thats keeping dla out of it.
i wont be signing. i think it should be means tested for the over 60s too!0 -

ALL benefits, premiums etc should be means tested.
The over 60's are the worst of the bunch for getting extravagent benefit payments.
And you are right - what on earth is the severe disability premium? They already get DLA/AA for that - why is it paid twice over.
Yes I get all of these myself because 'I am entitled'. Would it worry me to lose them to fund others, mainly young people with children, no it wouldn't.
Those over 60 keep quiet for one very good reason - they don't want to rock the boat that pays them anything up to £550 a week!!0 -

Absolute drivel.
We are pensioners who receive just the state pension which we have paid for with 80+ years of contributions and the £200 a year WFA. Put our state pension up by £2.50 a week each and by all means stop the WFA. I have never known people so envious of what is simply £5 a week, just paid in a lump sum.
My husband also gets AA at the high rate but this attracts no huge premiums for him.
You want to treat those of us who have actually made provision for ourselves as of no account, whilst feather bedding those who have spent rather than saved while they could.
You only wander these boards attempting to stir up trouble and to boast about what you reckon you get.
But then I forgot...you were 'forced' to claim huge sums that you don't know what to do with weren't you?0 -
Winter Fuel Payments are currently only available to those over 60 years of age.
The needs of the sick and Disabled of ALL ages are not being met, as many who are too ill to work cannot afford to heat their homes adequately.
A petition has been started to force the Government to reconsider the eligibility of those who can claim Winter Fuel Payments.
Please please clock the link below, then sign and repost it. I have until Feb 2013 to collect 100,000 signatures for the campaign to be considered for review in The House of Commons.
Campaigns and petitions have been started in the past but have not picked up enough momentum to be successful...

The age when it can be claimed will have risen in line with the pension age.
What about lowering DLA care or the disablement premium by £5 a week then paying it as a lump sum of £200 in November? Not many people would miss £5 a week but would appreciate £200 when the colder weather hits.
When the government is looking to save money rather than spend extra and considering there are in excess of 3 million people claiming DLA this would cost a huge amount which simply isn't there. If my rusty maths is correct this would add another £60 million to the benefit bill. Unaffordable I would suspect. It is a bit unfair to expect the beleaguered taxpayers to find ever yet more money when many are facing wage freezes etc but benefit recipients are going to receive a decent increase.
Most benefits are rising by an above inflation figure of 5.2% this year. Save the increase to pay the extra heating bills.
ETA: What would you do if the WFA was abolished altogether? What if it didn't exist? Would you still be wanting something because some other group gets it?0 -

I have over 40 years of NI stamps, paid for by never being out of work!
But if you were to get AA at any rate, your minimum income would rise to £528.80 a week plus full council tax and full housing benefit!
Hey, my wife receives her OAP as well!!
I do not 'wander these boards to stir up trouble'. I am simply pointing out that this amount of income is available to those who are 60+.
If you think I am telling porkies, I would suggest you have a look at this and work it out for yourself.

Whether you believe me or not that is your choice. I would simply ask you that if you had been living on £257 a week for years then all of a sudden your income went up by £271 a week and with no more council tax to pay or rent what would be your reaction? How would you cope?
For those who are 60+ and who receive this level of benefit there is something seriously wrong!
Irrespective of disability, the max any couple who are 60+ should get out of the benefit system is 2 x £107.45 = £214.90 + AA/DLA.
If their income exceeds £214.90, then benefits should be removed completely.
To give a couple £550'ish a week is far far too much, and beyond what normal people would need to live on.0 -

Told you it was drivel.
I have told you why -

At the moment your husband is receiving AA - £73.60 a week.
What you are missing is that you are not claiming any disability benefit. If you managed to get any rate of AA, you would get the above amounts.
Because two people together both getting AA, automatically qualifies you for a further £116.40 a week on top of the AA payments. Then as a couple each will receive the Carers Premium of £32.60 each!
So with you getting AA, your income would go up by:
Your AA (lower rate) payment £51.85
+ Disability Premium £116.40
+ 2 lots of Carers Premiums £65.20
A total of £233.45 a week extra just because you claimed AA!
Then because you get the above you will automatically get full council and housing benefit.
Not bad???
As I have said - check it out on the link I gave you. It's quite easy.0 -
