Day two has gone (so far) extremely well. I have a bit of a headache at present, which I understand can be a sign of carbohydrate withdrawal, but I have had a very stressful day which I am sure hasn’t helped too much, but either way I feel great overall, very confident.
I have no cravings and at present (5pm) no real appetite, even though all I have eaten today is two eggs scrabbled with 3 Cumberland chipolatas for breakfast, a green bean salad with added chicken for lunch and one full fat Babybel cheese about an hour ago.
Don’t know weather to have beef or pork for dinner tonight or a ham omelette.
Sat by the vending machines for lunch and I didn’t even twitch.

I have really enjoyed reading your messages; I can honestly say that they are helping me stay focused. I am currently working my way through http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf
As suggested by ktb. I think that this is brilliant- I have set out a mission for myself and shared it for all who want to read and within a day I am getting suggestions and recommendations- you make me feel good about my fellow humans and I may let more of you out from side turnings in future!

I am not going to be a slave to the scales and weigh myself all the time (too upsetting) and I have decided that I will do my first weigh in and share it with you after the first two weeks so that will be Sunday 19th. Sorry if you were waiting for daily updates!

    Thank you all. Jim.

Excuse the stupid question...are you eating low carbs for weight loss or because they are not good for diabetes? what about whole wheat carbs? just being nosey!

I The hard part is being home at 4.20pm and not snacking- this is my downfall time, especially if I am feeling low. I am (or have been) a comfort eater on a scale that I would never admit to another person- truly eating like a pig.

Well, have you got a gym near you? Distraction might help and why not focus on improving your overall general health. Even half an hour on the treadmill/rowing machine/stepper/a bit of stretching on the mats/weight lifting/kettlebell exercise etc may help you. Or a brisk walk/jog around the block/park/woods will do.

    Good luck

Checked my blood sugar @ 17:00 and it was 7.0 about 3 hours after eating. I've had cheese omelette this evening and I checked again 2 hours after eating and I was 5.1-very happy with these figures and I have just 200mg of Metformin today. I think that I am already seeing some positive effects regarding my sleep pattern and will know for sure tomorrow morning.
Usually of an evening I would have snack about 9ish, toast, bran flakes etc- but I have felt no urge or desire today. Bizarre how I feel fuller for longer whilst eating less. Have already prepared lunch for tomorrow and have cooked up some bacon ready for breakfast. Preparing everything in advance and in batches is certainly the easiest thing to do.

Thanks for the link downshifted- I've bookmarked it along with all the others. When I was first diagnosed at hospital the specialist diabetic nurse advised me not to search diabetes on the internet as I would just find sites proclaiming near death in blindness with no legs just for eating an apple. I think I may have a look around now.

If you're feeling headachey and possibly lightheaded make sure you're not skimping on your liquid intake and add in some salt - I sometimes have hot marmite to do this (or even just a teaspoonfull to lick), and it makes a huge difference. It's not carb free but it's not going to be enough to make a difference (0.7g available carbs in 4g serving). It's one of the reasons I recommended Taube, I can't remember the details off the top of my head but I think it was to do with the kidneys excreting [STRIKE]sodium[/STRIKE] potassium while the body adjusts.

    Edited to correct previous statement.
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Great answer. The headache got really quite intense last night after I had eaten so I dimmed the lights, took my contacts out and had some ibuprofen. If only I had drank a glass of water! Fortunately it was gone by 9pm and today has been fine.
I started to watch "Big Fat Lies with Gary Taubes, 02/06/08 Stevens Institute of Technology"

yesterday and it is very interesting but I stopped after 20 mins as I expect it will all be in the book that I am waiting for delivery and in greater detail.

Had a lovely salad today with some pine nuts sprinkled on it, never had them before but they really added to the meal. I have streaky pork belly slices tonight, I was going to trim some fat off it but according to Dr Annika Dahlqvist I shouldn't do this, so I won't.
