Room Thermostat

I have a non digital room thermostat on a wall in a alcove. I am not sure it is working properly. When the room is at the temperature I want or even higher the boiler is still going off and on every few minutes. It seems the thermostat is not switching the boiler off when the room temperature is reached. I hope someone understands this as its the only way I can describe it.

It takes hours to heat the room to that point. The boiler is a Vokera and set to 64 for the heating. I think the boiler is about 9 years old.

When it's at temperature, and you turn the thermostat all the way down, what happens?
The thermostat will normally be designed to fire the boiler every few minutes or so, to maintain the temperature of the room.
Are you sure it's not just doing this?

When I turn the thermostat down it clicks at about 14 degrees. I am a bit naive about these things. If thats normal for the boiler to that it seems I dont need to worry. Thank you for replying.

I thought that if thermo set to 18 and the room temp gets to that it should click off then.

Get a thermometer so you can check the thermostat. My thermostat is out by 1.5 degrees.

I have a temperature thing on my living room clock. That what started me thinking about it. I think the thermostat is out about 5 degrees. If I have the thermostat set at 15 the room will heat up to 19.

The temperature set on your boiler doesn't matter for this problem; although turning it up will speed the heating up of the room.

Is the boiler a combi? If not could it be heating the Hot Water Tank? Indeed some combi's have a small internal hot water tank.

To a certain extent it doesn't matter if the calibration of the wall thermostat is incorrect as long as it maintains the temperature of the room to the level you want.

It could just be dust on the contacts of the room thermostat?

Try putting the Hoover to it or giving it a good blow?

I wouldnt take the cover off tho as there could be live terminals!

It could also just be the location of the thrmostat, an alcove is not the best position?

Thank you for all your replies. I did think maybe it wasnt the best place for the thermostat. Will try giving it a clean.
