  • Yes the PS3 is expensive but not when you compare it to the 360. If you want the two systems to be equal you have to buy.
    1) Xbox 360 premium (only 20Gb HDD) 279.99
    Network adaptor 59.99
    HD-DVD player 129.99
    Total 469.97

    2)PS3 Premium (60Gb HDD) 425.00

Also PS3 can have a usb keyboard and mouse attached to help with web browsing and has a built in card reader.

I am not a 360 hater i own a 360 i just think that everone saying it is so much more expensive than the PS3 is just not true. It actually works out slightly cheaper. The only advantage with the 360 is the modular fashion ie. you add what you want when you can afford it.

There's 210,000 entering UK for the launch date, thats 100 per store.

From emails with an e-tailer, there's going to be PS3's left over after all the pre-orders. So those who are planning on buying & putting on ebay are going to shoot themselves in the foot i think!

There's also another massive delivery due for the month after launch. Can't see it being like the fiasco for XBOX 360 HD-DVD players and Nintendo Wii's myself.

And with the price reduction already planned for christmas 2007 I can hold off my blu-ray player until then

I think people buying this will be buying it partly as a blue-ray dvd player - it will be the cheapest on the market for that - the next one being aroun 600! So in those terms its "good value".

In console terms its a rip-0ff - but I can still see ebay making you money on it - circa 100 to 200 quid.

They were expecting around the same number of Wiis - but that fell through. Wont be surprised if the same happens with this - if only for marketing purposes!
Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:

ebay was selling wii at a premium price well after christmas too because of the shortages....

PS3: if there are 2.2 people per household and if a household each get hold of one that will give 500,000 individual peoiple with a ps3 in their home.

If the population of GB is 60 million that makes 0.83% of the population with access to the console at launch.

Given the number of people in the UK that are too young, too old, unable, can't afford £425 or simply don't want one - i'd say we're gonna have plenty!!

Do you think the demand will be big like when the Wii came out before Christmas.

Given that the first Wii pre-order on Amazon sold out in 7 minutes, and the PS3 is still available to order over 2 hours after it became available I would say NO.

The problem is that very few people will look at it like that...

Most people will see the headline price (around £250 for the 360 & £425 for the PS3) and they will think "Damn, that's nearly £200 more. Johhny can have a 360".

Thing is, that most people won't want or need either a wireless adapter or a HD-DVD player - they'll want a games console.

Personally, I have no bias one way or another but if I go into a shop without that bias a month after the PS3 launch I'll have 3 choices:

WII - fun, different, not great graphics, no HD and a few games at around £30-40 each: £190
360 - Next Gen graphics, xbox Live, Media streaming from my PC, HD, I can buy a HD-DVD player if I ever decide I need one, loads of games, and some for as little as £20 (£10 sometimes): £250
PS3 - Next Gen graphics, HD, Blue-ray drive (but I don't seen the need for replacing all my DVDs just to get HD), wireless but no media streaming (and wireless is useless for that anyway); very few games all at £50 each: £425

I'm a long way from being rich but I consider myself to be pretty average when it comes to being a consumer and that price tag means it's out of my league when it comes to a peice of entertainment equipment that will have a regular £50 top up cost everytime I want to play something new.

I'd make a choice between the 360 and the Wii...and I'd probably end up with the Wii becase I could see my wife and child enjoying that with me.

The PS3 will sell because it is a playstation but the price has put it out of the birthday present arena for most parents and even out of the Christmas present arena for many. For many the price represents a significant portion of their monthly *disposable* income. Too significant a portion.

Will it sell out on launch? Heck, the insanity of the buying public never ceases to amaze me so who knows?

I see your arguement but ps3 can stream audio and video. Also 360 is around £280 not £250. And i dont think most people are that naive that they dont compare products to get the best deal. If they were sights like this wouldnt exist. Also games are widerly available for 39.99.

The Grabbit Section is for things that people actually want to buy :rotfl:

I guess that's because the Wii is actually available to buy, whereas the PS3 isn't. It's not really a short term grabbit offer on a pre-order!
