ALDI - best value dry foods to stock up on?
Comments
-
The corned beef is lovely and well cheaper than any of the major supermarkets, I also regularly buy:
dried pasta - like the "premium" pasta in the other supermarkets and half the price.
jaffa cakes
washing liquid
Their version of vanish
Benefit cereal
porridge oats
tomato puree
tinned tomatoes
tinned sweetcorn
whole chicken (lovely and hardly any fat comes out when you roast it)
caster sugar 99p as opposed to £1.97 in other supermarkets
flour
dried fruit
nuts
sea salt
fruit and veg - always lovely quality in my Aldi but each store can vary
frikadellen
oven chips
quarter pounder burgers (frozen)
cheese slices
onion relish
cleaning stuff
bin bags
Thick cut premium ham
Things I don't like:
tomato ketchup
beans
both of the above I used to always get and loved but they have somehow changed the recipe and they aren't nice now (IMO!)
salad cream
corn flakes
toilet tissue
crisps
I think you have to just try stuff out - I know that I used to be a terrible brand snob but since discovering Aldi I think that they stuff they sell is as good as, if not better in some cases, than the branded stuff. There are of course exceptions.
I never know when the vouchers are in the paper - I missed the Sun one and the last Daily Mirror one too!!Jane

i prefer the aldi version of cherios to the real brand cherios
i really recommend the washing up liquid
i have recently became an aldi convertMember #64 £2012 in 2012 challenge total so far: £714.54/£20120 -
I bought ground almonds yesterday, 99p for 200g. The same in tesco would cost £2.09.
I use them a lot in baking and thought these were great value.0 -
All Aldi bread products
cold meats - super cheap
caster sugar
cereals
juice in single serving cartons for lunch bags
toiletries
99p frozen pasta meals - fantastic with some garlic bread
fresh meat is always excellent so much better than the rubbish that Tesco try to pass off
I could go on, but will say to all Aldi newbies just give what you want a try then pass judgementDTD - Doing Tesco Daily - while I still have vouchers!0
