disconnected gas

this is my first post on here. I have just discovered my mums gas supply has been cut off a few years ago through none payment. her boiler has broken and her radiators have seen better days. she has not attempted to sort this out as only used gas to get hot water, (as boiler for heating does not work) so she used electric shower and kettle for water. she lives alone, below age of 60, works full time, claims no benefits. as she is single she only has her wage and so has no spare cash to deal with this. she is unaware of what to do to get the gas reconnected. help please !! is there anything she can do to try to get some help to sort this problem out ???

But if the boiler is broken then she can't get either heating or hot water?
She would need to apply to the supplier to be reconnected, for which a fee will be payable, and an account opening. They may want her to have a PPM instead.
But unless the boiler is going to be mended, what would be the point?
This assumes that the debt is now over 6 years old and no longer recoverable.

  • it was 4 years ago, and she cannot afford to pay the bill now. so if she cannot pay it can she still get reconnected ? and yes there is not point getting it done if boiler not working but i also wondered is there any help for single working people on help with heating issues ?

  • it makes me so angry, she works and earns an average wage, then pays mortgage and bills and has very little left. she has nothing on credit, no loans or anything else and is living in a home that is freezing cold. its so unfair

When you say disconnected do you mean the boiler has been or has the meter been capped or removed - if still in place is your mother still paying a gas bill or does she still get a bill.

If meter capped contact the registered gas supplier to have it uncapped but the boiler will need repair or replacing 1st. As they cannot un capp if risk to safety at property,

If the meter has been removed then the first thing that needs to be arranged is a Live or Dead check via the gas network for the area - if the pipe is still live and fit for purpose then it is just a case of arranging with supplier for a new meter if dead your mother will need a new supply putting in and of course that is chargeable.

But given there is a debt she may well have to pay some sort of deposit to a supplier or clear the debt.

How have you not noticed that her house is freezing cold for 4 years? She has the option of heating the house using electricity. There is no point in reconnecting the gas supply if she can't have the boiler repaired.
Has the debt been written off?

Is bang on the mark, after 1 year normaly a voluntary withdraw is made by a supplier
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
