There was a lot of bad publicity when they first came out in 2007 about them catching on fire, but get mainly good reviews. I had one when they first came out, and it became unusable after 14 months as lid kept popping up, but I'm tempted to try one again, because they are good, and there's no smell from them. Hopefully they've improved the build quality

  • After all the reports of fire risks I would not have one in my kitchen, as nice as they sound. I'm allergic to fire lol

My friend bought one last year and they are now vented at the back. Older models had a small vent on the base. I've looked at recent reviews and couldn't find any that reported the unit burning

I'm on my 3rd, the first one went bang without flames and the second was a bit worn out but Costco replaced both for nothing so I'm still happy with them, as has been said the new version doesn't suffer the same problems and is still going strong!

I'd still worry about them catching fire though as you can never be sure they've really fixed the problem!

The problem was only on older models, the fan occasionally stopped working. The problem is now resolved.

Some people worry too much, it's not like you would go out and leave your chips cooking is it ! As others have said the problem has been fixed so I'd rather have one of these than a deep fat fryer or those awful and expensive oven chips!
