What is this item called?

I need some metal rod in a c or u profile - prefer steel or something similar, not aluminium

Any idea what it would be called please and would B&Q sell it?

Depends on the size - B&Q do tend to have a rack of fairly small pieces of U or more likely a square version of it - usually also a choice of plastic, aluminium and mild steel. However you are really only going to get something around 2cm section by about 1m long. If you want anything more substantial you'll need to look elsewhere.

Try a model engineer suppliers. The ones I use are
Model and College Metals, Units 1 and 2, The Cobden Centre, Vere Street, Salford, England, M5 2GQ
    Tel: (+44) (0)161 736 2498
Give them a ring and ask for their catalogue.
Most can only post up to two foot lengths. If you want longer than that ( or cannot join two pieces), try your local steel stockholder. Their steel is usually in three ( sometimes six) metre lengths.
  • Thanks folks, that's what I need, 1cm channel section up to a metre long
