Credit Cards and Limits

A friend what to book a car hire on hoilday in a few months, but the car hire company has told him, he must use a credit card with a minimum card limit of £1000.
But he doesn't have a credit card, and when he asked his Bank Natwest they said they will only give him a £500 limit, do you think their are any banks he could try, that might give him that £1000 limit?
He hasn't had a credit card for 20 years, which I guess is why they are reluctant to give him higher credit.

Your guess it as good as mine, but unlikely.
No open credit accounts at the moment?
Is his salary paid into Nat West (main bank)?
I havent heard of a car company asking for a minimum card limit of £1000 how would they no?Can I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)0 -
Try a.n.other credit card provider. Capital 1 are quite generous with credit limit. He might prefer a Halifax card which would be cheaper to use in EU."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

They usually pre-authorise the payment, so they effectively reserve £1,000 should anything happen to the car. So whilst that's pre-authorised you wont be able to spend that £1,000 on the card.
I agree about trying your main bank for one.0
