New Laptop HP Pavilion G Series

My Family bought this Laptop for me this week I had the Chap who does any work I ever need set it up for me. I have a problem with the Norton 360 security It continues to show that the Sonar part of the security system is switched off I have closed it down restarted it again and it might be OK for a short period and once again it shows this alert.
I have followed the instructions of going to settings click antivirus
auto protection realtime and then click the Sonar Protection and click apply.
This does solve the problem but in a short time it is back to the alert again!
Wonder if anyone has any idea what I should do. Thanks

May I poilitely suggest that you go back to the guy that set it up for you, as he should really fix this for you?

    Alternatively have ago at this:

Thanks Will do I tried to him today but his phone was off. He does nork Sunday but I will call him Monday. I paid quite a lot of money to have him sort it out for me. He is not that keen on Norton and I have had it in the past and was not impressed but my family bought it for me.
Thanks for your advice and I see that the first thread I wrote did in fact go through so now there are two. Not sure how to close this down

I would suggest you eliminate Norton altogether and go for one of the many free, less bloated and resource heavy alternatives.

Plenty of good candidates to choose from described in the stickies here. :)

Historically Norton well deserved their reputation for their bloated cpu intensive system. However nowadays it is very different and quite efficient as good as any other, except you pay for it.

As the OP hasn't paid for it and is effectively free for her, it would make sense to just fix the problem? If she uninstalls it and introduces something else then if she has further problems she would have no recourse to the guy that set it up her her?

I had a call frrom the guy that set it up for me but he just told to try uninstalling and reloading it. He didn't offer to come and sort it out for me. I paid him £90 as he backed up the disc for me 5 in total. he sorted out the wireless and put the Norton on but it took almost 3 hours hence the cost for 3 hours work. I will call him again if I am not able to sort it out. Will try reinstalling it myself and see how it goes. Thanks again

Mt Grandson 15 has been in and he has reinstalled it for me. For now it is OK but time will tell. I would not want to get rid of it as whilst it did not cost me anything my Daughter bought everything including the Norton. I would go back to Kaspersky if Norton continues to give me a lot of problems
My Grandson was impressed that I could go on this web site and get some advice. Thanks again for all of you who responded to my problem!

I continually had this problem despite the reinstallation I then had a look on the Norton forum and found another mode of going through the process quite a long way around this. Had to uninstall it 3 times then using the CD reinstalling followed by 3 times repeat run live updates. It has been successful but this Norton 360 seems to have a general fault. I am delighted!

Susan1942, Hi, you could have taken your system to Currys and had the entire setup done for £30. Not all Currys/PC World staff are bad. £90 is very expensive for a 'local' fella to have done this.

Recently, Norton 360 V5 has had issues with the Sonar Protection error (3039 error if I remember rightly) and currently the only thing that can be done is to wait for Norton to release an update which will filter into your installation. This is NOT a fault of any technician and the updates are flowing thick and fast.

I myself have spoken to Norton techs about this issue and it has been noted more often than not on the HP G6 range where Norton Internet Security has to be removed first.

    I hope this helps
