HELP heating thermistat won't turn on heating

We have an old (about 30yrs) gas warm air system by Johnson Starley. The modairflow thermister-stat won't click on. There are only 2 wires coming into it & somehow we did get to click on once today but now it won't. Pretty sure it's the thermostat.
Is there ANY way to temporarily get this working (had to happen on a weekend and the coldest day of the year so far. It's snowing outside too.) This is our only form of heating. We have a back-up calor gas fire BUT we can't get a gas bottle for it so that's useless - been trying to get one for weeks.
I'm a bit worried about getting out with the car in this snow, or rather getting back as it seems to be coming down quickly. Sure we can borrow an electric fire from a neighbour though.
We did have a B Gas service contract last year BUT I let it lapse as they never had the parts - left us a week last year without heating and when I mentioned the dodgy thermostat (been not clicking on properly for a while) he said 'it's working OK'.
Help anyone?

Thanks for that.
For some unknown reason it's come on now??? We're not going to touch the thermistat control at all now but will use the timing control on the unit itself - we normally just turn it off and on via the thermistat as keep irregular hours.
I don't know if this will help keep it working OR is there probably some fault that will keep recurring?
We normally get a click from the boiler when the thermostat is turned but got nothing.
Hmmm - thermistat OR Modairlow electronics panel?? - Is the panel in the thermostat?? or in the boiler??
If it's the circuit panel in the thermister-stat then presumably if I order a replacement (under £40) on Monday we should be back up and running?? Seems an easy job to replace it - just 2 wires!0 -
Make sure you switch off the circuit before you swap it over. If in doubt switch off all your electrics!0

System has stopped working again. Been turning off at timer not thermostat.
Can anyone tell me if the thermister-stat has ALL the controls to turn the system on/off - we do think it's probably this as previously you could feel when it was going to click on when turning - now you can't as it doesn't click on.
System was working earlier today - switching CH on BUT now has stopped doing this even though it's quite cold.
Pilot light is lit.
Can anyone help as it seems like the gas fitter that was helping has had all posts removed?0 -
a thermostat with just two wires usually means it can be by-passed by joining the two wires.
using a simple switch if required.
however the system needs to be monitored, as the stat is not working, obviously.Get some gorm.0
