Proximate cause of the damage is the faulty construction of the patio which is not an insured peril. Even if there was AD cover it is unlikely that the policy would respond, because faulty workmanship is a specific exclusion.

Is it possible to contact the original owners of the property to find out who did the building work - only thing is if it was a DIY job they won't want to own up.
  • You never phone the insurance company until you know you are covered and know exactly what you are claiming for and why. You should also know how they may try to fob you off and have already gone through the exclusions with a fine tooth comb to make sure that none apply or you have presented your claim in a manner so that none do apply.

The thing is that once you have set the scene, you cannot change what has been presented to them.

And nor should you because that would be dishonest.

I was clutching at straws I'll admit, thinking of something along the lines of internal work being covered on a storm claim under accidental damage (generally) even if the roof has failed due to wear and tear.

Thank you to everyone. Guess we'll be paying for patio work and doors. Sun
