Memory foam mattress topper - depth query

Options
We are going to buy a memory foam topper for our bed. Can anyone advise that the 4" deep will naturally be better/more comfortable than the 2"? Seems a bit obvious but I wanted to check other people's experiences. Thanks

I would save your money, they are truly awful to sleep on. I tried for a week and hardly slept a wink

During the summer you will sweat like the proverbial.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Well I have been sleeping on one on my side of the bed for 2 years and found it great - we just want to get one to fit the whole bed now, and just wondered what other people's experiences are of 1" ones vs 3" or 4" ones were.
I had heard about people finding them too hot in the summer but I haven't found that to be the case for myself.

Just remember that a memory foam topper is just that a topper. It will not support your body, that's the job of the springs in your mattress.

If your mattress is 8-10 years then it's time to replace it rather then stick a plaster over the top of it.

Memory foam toppers come in all prices and qualities from very cheap £50 through to about £900!

Due to depth of foam and also grade of memory foam, then the cover on the topper can also vary.

The thicker the topper the more you're going to sink into it, ie softer, but also the warmer you will be as your'll be surround by more foam.

Thanks PP - we want the topper because we are sleeping on 2 single mattresses (still oin good condition) pushed together (and have done for a couple of years) We just fancy eliminating the ridge down the middle and can't afford a new superking mattress and the topper seems like a solution, having tested the single one I have laid down along the crack, it does eliminate it.
Your last bit was especially helpful - the sort of info I'm after.

Your welcome, poundstrecher have singles for £19.99 at the moment but can't imagine for one minute that they are any good.

  • No,lol I don't imaginge they can be. I know where we will buy our superking sized one from though, I just feel uncertain about what thickness to go for but definitely not the 4" now, after your comment.

I bought a 4" one two weeks ago and I am loving it. Dunno how long it will last as it was a cheap one ( £56) but it was really to see if I would like the memory foam and to see if it would stop my aching hip bones- which it has. When it wears out I will buy a quality one. I think you can get soft medium and hard foam so I imagine with the harder denser one you wouldn't sink so far in?? I can't see how a 1 or 2" would be better but I have no experience of them so maybe I am wrong.
  • Thanks very much betty. Sounds like I need to check out the density factor.

I bought a King size topper for £25 in Asda on the weekend. Cheaper than the singles ones. Worth a try for that price!
