Try mattress man .co.uk they do seconds might have a few marks etc,we bought a super kingsize for £400 they normally sell for £900 it is a pocket sprung and memory foam on top not hard but very supportive and far to comfortable at 6.30 in the morning!!
  • Hi, what we did was go around lots of bed shops one day and lay down on lots of different mattresses. I too prefer a firm mattress and the one that we both agreed on was the Highgrove Kensington Stress Free, which is pretty firm. The shop we saw it in wanted to charge us £350 for it, but I wrote down the make and model and searched on the internet and managed to get it for £181 delivered. The only advice I can give is go and try them out in the shops and THEN look online for the ones you like. Incidentally our second favourite was a Myers mattress. Hope this helps

Whatever you do, stay clear of Sealy mattress. I spend approx. £700 on a double mattress, which right from the start sacks, less than 6 months on the sacking is so bad that the only place I can sleep is in the middle of a double mattress. Sealy sent an 'independent' expert (chose and paid for by Sealy) who started off with string test (use string with weight on both sides) to check the level of sacking, which make the sacking even more pronounce. Despite this he said that this is normal (at the time he came, my mattress was not even 6 months old and I weight less than 10 stones). I have/had several mattresses including foam mattress over 10 years old, none sack this much. I'm going to make a photo with string test and send it to the shop I bought from, for them to have another talk with Sealy. If they still refuse to replace/refund, I will do all I can to make this public so that every body to know how low Sealy expectation is.
