Debt - Vicious Circle - Help

  • I forgot to mention I sold my phone on ebay to pay off the loan debt a few months back. But now the guy I sold it to is claiming the money back as he thought it was brand new when I clearly stated it was a used phone.. also I forgot to include the handsfree kit, and searched everywhere for it to no avail. So I said I'd buy him a new one when I have the cash (I don't have any cash so he's claimed against me). So there's another £160 I'm going to be hit with in the next couple of days.

I hate being in debt :(

I would dispute this transaction with ebay if you stated on the auction that it was used then he has no grounds to claim against you. I have had an issue with someone in the past and ebay were helpful.
  • True, but I didn't send him the headset (or so he says), so I did say I'd buy him a new one. But I don't have the cash and he's desputed it with paypal. There is noway I will win as he hasn't got something I said in the desrciption. And he's said its a vital bit of the phone, when it's not.

Everything is just piling against me.
  • Think someone has said this but if you get paid weekly, spread the DD's out so they don't all come out at the same time.
Can you not just offer phone bloke a refund? Have look on Ebays problems page, can't remember proper its name, if you clearly stated it was used then tough. Has he gone though proper channels or just harrassed you? Don't give in, be strong. I would say you offer to send him a hands free kit or offer him refund of handsfree kit cost. How long before he moaned? Sorry I'm making this really long winded!!!!

Sorry just read post above which came though while I was doing mine. Have a bit of faith in paypal/ebay you might be surprised as you offered a solution and he rejected it. I always remember someone saying to me if you act like a door mat people will treat you like one, Stand up to this bully!!!!
Why didn't someone kick me up the backside earlier:mad:

He went through paypal, I did tell him I was in financial difficulties, and he gave me till 1st of Feb to send him a handsfree kit or refund (I haven't got the cash for either).

Since then I found the handsfree kit 2 days ago, but it's too late as he's already filled a claim, and I cannot afford to pay him back.

I don't like working weekends but I would, but that's where another problem comes in.. my g/f lives distance away, and I only see her at the weekends. If I had another job, I wouldn't be able to see her at the weekend.

It's hard really, no matter what I seem to be doing, something always pops up somewhere else and it kicks me twice as hard. It just feels like I'm alone but I'm determand to get back on my feet and sort my problems out.

But the first big step I need to take which I don;t dare do, is tell my mum.
  • i would seriously look into setting up a new bank account aswel, just a basic bank account. Go online to https://www.halifax.co.uk and apply for the easycash bank account.
I have a problem getting my head round my finances so what i am doing is having 2 basic bank accounts.
My wages will go into one, and my direct debits will come out of it and whatever is remaining each week/month i will set up a standing order to transfer it into a different account so i know whatever is in that account is mine to spend on petrol, food etc.

You could maybe try doing the same and if you decide to keep your direct debits going out once a month, work out how much you have to save each week and then transfer the remaining amount into the other account. That way you know at the end of the month the bills are getting paid.

    Just an idea.
  • Great idea, it's something I'm going to do. I have faith in that idea and know that will help me. Beucase to be honest, my problem is, when I see money in my account I spend it. And that's not good, and that's what's got me into this mess I'd say.

Today is the day I do something about this, and try get myself back together as it's making me ill, and giving me many sleepless nights.

    Many thanks.
  • Tell paypal you've found missing item, what have you got to lose. Has the dispute been resolved.
I'm sure your girlfriend would understand and it may only be for a short time to pay off debt .
Sorry but needs must! You've got to make positive steps instead of excuses, sorry to be blunt!!!

  • Yes I know you're 100% correct, as my money situation really is getting out of hand..

We're not talking big debts and its not even £1000 but it's still a circle I can't get out of.

I have just applied for the Halifax account, and I'm going to go into paypal and tell them I've found the missing piece.

I hope things get sorted many thanks for your time on reply to me.
