Loneshark Threatening Brother and his Family?

has he seen any paperwork that shows that his wife did actually take out this loan? ~Do you think she might have put it in joint names and forged your brother's signature?0

If it was a loanshark then the police should do something about it tell him to try again with them...if the person coming round for money is registered with the fsa then there is nothing you can do but pay the money back, if there is paper work try find it out and see what it says.
All i can advise is get a good baseball bat in the readiness to protect himself from violence.0 -
Spent quite a bit of time yesterday outside my brother's business but no sign of the loan shark or his heavies. When my brother got home he phoned the guy and invited him around his house. After some discussion the guy agreed to let my brother repay the capital owed within two weeks but warned him if the money was not forthcoming he would have my brother shot (and brother recorded that conversation). Just had my brother on the phone. He has had more people knocking on his door today demanding money as his wife had (supposedly) borrowed money from them also. He doesn't know who to believe, is this the truth or are they just jumping on the bandwagon thinking they can also get money out of him. I'm very worried as he said it might be best if he just "disappeared". He's also asked my sister if she could look after his daughter whilst he "sorts this sh*t out" which could also be worrying in light of his disappearing comment. Told him he needs to phone the citizens advice bureau tomorrow. Think I need to try and get some time off work so I can go down the police station with him and make sure exactly what they say and advise.0

are they demanding the money with menaces? then your brother could go back to the police. but he would need proof.
its not illegal to demand payment of a debt.
It IS illegal to demand payment of that debt if they threaten bodily harm or damage to property.0 -
It does seem very suspect, that as soon as your brother has agreed to repay the loan shark, more of them are popping up. To be honest considering the threats that have been made, and that there is a child living at your brothers home, I would not delay going to the police till tomorrow.
I was quite shocked at what your brother was initially told when he went to the police. They should be taking this situation far more seriously.Grammar: The difference between knowing your !!!!!! and knowing you're !!!!!! :cool:0 -

I agree. The police will take this very seriously. They are open 24 hours a day. There is nothing wrong with phoning them tonight and finding out how you and your brother should be dealing with this.
Don't delay, find out where you stand and get their support. They will tell you how to behave with these types of people, as they are used to them. Good luck.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
I agree with the others. He should ring the police. Particularly as he now does have that evidence (although my comments would be the same even without it).
Loan sharks are a nasty, nasty piece of society that trade illegally and on fear / violence. They can be stopped but it does require someone to tell the authorities. That's scary, but as he's already finding out, it isn't just going to go away by one agreement - more are coming out of the woodwork.
He should let his daughter's school know as this is bound to be a little unsettling for her even if she only picks up on his nerves.
Good luck.0 -
Oh my god. What an awful situation to be in.
This sounds all so fishy though, has your brother's partner got anything to do with any of this? In a way where she is *in on it* to gain money from your brother? Has there been any paperwork/book?
Please make sure that they are safe, especially that child, and go to the police demand to see someone.0 -
Should this thread be moved to the debt free wannabe? I should think there are a lot of people on there who have either experience, or will back up the advice.
ps has your brother actually seen any paperwork from these blokes , or is he just taking their word for it?MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0
