This morning I edited a post to add a few words.
When I went back and read it about half an hour later, it still had the pre-edit version.
Very strange, I thought, maybe I wasn't concentrating and didn't actually post it, so I pressed edit.
In the fast edit window, the post appeared in its later intended version, in other words I had already edited it, but the later version does not appear.
I've posted again in the thread, quoting my previous post both as it appears when I read it, and what comes up as the version when I press Edit or Quote, and pointing out the difference.
I've pressed both F5 and ctrl-F5 and it makes no difference. The post still appears one way, but different if I re-open it.
If this sort of thing is to happen at random on threads, then people may unwittingly be posting old versions of advice, without realising that the database has not removed a mistake or added an improvement that they intended and wanted
