Right please help me i am dealing with my mum car insurance trying to get her a better deal online,
thing is last year while her car was parked outside the house no one in it, some idiot driver scaped up the side of her car the whole length of it, the damage was not deep but was along the whole passenger side,
she called her insurance company as car is fully comp but as its a ten year old car all they wanted to do was right the car off,
as the car had just gone though cam belt change and a lot of other repairs costing alot and passed its mot, my mum didnt want to loss the car as its been serviced by main dealer its whole lifetime and is a very good car, the damage being only slight but more cosmetic it was four side panels needed repairing so my mum told the women on the phone to cancel the claim and didnt go though with it not wanting to lose the car,
the insurance claim was cancelled but the women told my mum it would stay on record,
we now have the renewal and mum still has her 4 years no claims bonus on their , but my question is when i appliy for new insurance and it asks have you made a claim or had any accidents in the last 5 year what should i say??, as the claim was cancelled and it wernt my mum who had any accident as the car was parked at the time the man hit it, thanks in advance for your advice,
just to ad my mum ended up paying the £2500, to repair the damage herself,, so the car is now fixed and running well, ok i know she could have bought another car for this but she is old set in her ways and says better the devil you know, i am assuming the car is now known as an insurance right off tho would this be right also!

Yes.
You need to inform them of any claim or potential claim the policyholder may have made - even enquiring about a claim counts.
It is very easy for your insurer to check this also as the old insurer would have added it to the Claims & Underwriting Exchange which is a large database used by insurers to check just this sort of thing.
If you do not tell them your policy can be cancelled due to non-disclosure which will make it very difficult and expensive to get any type of insurance in future.0 -
thanks i did think that myself does seem very unfair that my mums insurance goes up because another driver hits a parked car tho very bad indeed, the insurance company shes with now has quoted her £400,00 more than last year, my mum is 67 has driven for over 40 years and Never had a claim never had an accident or anything it all so wrong i only hope the man who hit her insurance doubles also,0

Declare it as an incident but no claim and hence no cost.
Also, it should not be classed as an insurance right-off, that would only have been true if the insurance had paid out and taken ownership of the car, which they did not. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
ohh ok thanks for that i wernt sure on insurance right off bit,, i am trying to do it now i dont see the point in her going fully comp anymore as no insurance would pay out due to the age of the car is the same thing happened again so was going to go third part fire theft, but their dont seem much of a differance in price their either,, insurance seems unfair and a bit erratic to me lol0

whoop whoop thanks for the advice i did it and what you said "Declare it as an incident but no claim and hence no cost" and still managed to find a smaller quote than last years not to bad i think, i was getting worried for a bit today when we got the renewal letter and it had gone up from £400. to £814.47 almost choked on my toast when i read it,,,, i assume the driver who hit my mums car his insurance will go up also i only hope he dont get a good deal, he dont deserve to for what he done he has no right being on the road at all, how he ever got a license i will never know!0

Fully comp is better than TPF&T in more ways than you may think, it is not just to cover damage to your own car.
Fully comp also covers things like : Windscreen, personal liability (maybe), courtesy car, etc.
Also, TPF&T can be more expensive because it is not normally wanted by more experienced drivers who are lower risk. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you have the other drivers details and you can get it in writing the amount they are increasing the insurance by, you can sue the other driver for the loss.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. yes i thought this when mum first got the car years ago and i was the one made her go fully comp for the last 4 years i now feel what was the point in it, as car is ten years old they will only want to right it off if anyone hits it, as any damage would most likely be more than the cars worth, thats what happened in that case,, i was fumming when my mum payed out of her own pocket to have it repaired it does make you think whats the point in the insurance other than to cover any damage she may cause herself to others,
as for courtesy car she wouldn't want it, if the car was wrote off she has said she would never drive again once the life of this car she has now is up, set in her ways is my mum and loves her car more than me :rotfl: lol,0 -

heehee now their an idea:money:, but tbh i dont think we could be bothered with it, i have found a quote bit less than her last years one and its only £200.00 more for full comp, but i am really apprehensive about going fully comp i mean all i feel it would be good for would be the windscreen, and even then scrap yard £80.00, so cant see the benifits really, i know if the car was really a right off they may payout but mum is not interested in the money that car is her baby

I found there wasn't much between fully comp and tpft on my last car, (am talking between 10-20 quid) ended up going back to fully comp last time but only because I knew I'd be changing the cover anyway for a newer car within that insurance span.0
