Actually OP is right and you are wong in this instance.
Paypal will not care who arranged courier, if buyer makes a complaint about item being damaged then on return OP will be forced to refund the item cost.
The only part buyer will be liable for is the courier costs as paypal cannot refund more than buyer originally paid and I assume buyer would have paid these direct to courier. In fact buyer could get th eitem cost refunded from seller and also still be in a position to make a claim for damage against courier.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Utter codswallop. As soon as you tell Paypal that the buyer collected it, they lose the case. The fact the buyer has sent their agent, the courier, to collect it is irrelevant - it is treated as the buyer collecting it.
The Ebay auction said it was collection only, the paypal payment would show nothing for delivery charges.0 -

Complete rubbish.
They must see you coming, if you'd fall for one of the oldest scams on ebay.0 -

I strongly suggest you read up on some of the things PayPal will do, as lack of knowledge is why people get ripped off.
OP is being very sensible here and understands that this is PayPal and therefore logic does not apply.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. so you can defend any paypal dispute, by telling them the buyer collected the item?0 -

And what do paypal state about seller protection when the goods have been collected and the buyer does a chargeback through their paypal funding source?PayPal seller protection does not apply to Claims, Chargebacks and/or Reversals for the reason that the purchase was Significantly Not as Described (SNAD) nor for items that you deliver or are picked up in person.0
