Has any one any experience of these; or similar.

I'm considering buying a flat, the only down side is theres no gas, and never likely to be.

So it has to be electric heating.

Any advise/experience of electric heating would be very welcome.

Many thanks

You will be heating using expensive day rate electricity, which will work out more expensive than using gas.
All forms of electric heating are 100% efficient, some will have better control systems than others.
Night storage heating uses cheap rate electricity but you won't have this.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Getting economy 7 fitted may be worth looking into.
Storage heaters can be quite inexpensive second-hand on ebay.
Replacing faulty parts is not generally hard or expensive, and once you've finished, and given them a lick of paint, they are as good as new.

    The savings can be considerable!

However, first thing is to get some cheap heaters - of whatever form - with thermostats - and work out what level of heating is actually required.
If on a 0C night, you need to use 15kWh over the whole 24 hours, then you probably want to size the storage heaters at a bit over 25kWh, for example.

(a 2.5KW storage heater charges at 2.5KW for 7 hours, storing 17.5kWh of heat)

Well they aren't lying when they say..........

YOU CANNOT BUY A MORE EFFICIENT ELECTRIC RADIATOR SYSTEM! FACT

You can buy one that is equally as efficient! FACT....In fact they are all 100% efficient so any heater purchased is equally as efficient and no heater is more efficient.

If you are going to heat a property using electric heating you need to make a choice between night storage heating or standard rate electricity and use the heater whenever you want. Whatever you do make sure your electricity tariff is the best you can find.....and just buy any cheap heater there is no point wasting money on a good looking heater then asking about economy on a money saving forum.

As above-just buy the cheapest convector you can find, Aldi, Lidl, etc-they will do exactly the same job at a fraction of the price.

As per your link if you are going to spend some of your money on a good looking heater then the following one looks really nice...at only £81.99+£12.24 delivery. I'd say it's a bargain. Expensive but very stylish. That'll get your visitors talking about it instead of some big lump of white painted aluminium on the wall.

Yes, I spotted that as well Happy. I do need a nice fire in the lounge as a focal point.
I shall know in a couple of weeks time whether I'll have this property or not, as I'm going to auction to bid for it.
Not done this be for so should be quite exciting.

I live in a Sheltered Housing complex of 35 bungalows. Most are heated by enormous, antiquated 'radiators' which are totally unfit for purpose. By the late afternoon and evening, heat stored from Night Storage has dwindled to almost nothing. The Social Landlord refuses to even consider changing to a modern replacement, even though a system such as described (or others I have found) would give longer-lasting heat and be more economical.

Everyone who believes that NS heating is better, should actually live in a property which has it, before giving that opinion. It is not! What is the point of "cheap" heating, if it does not work as the sun goes down, which is of course when we most need it? With all heaters switched on and working, we can only keep warm by closing both doors in the lounge at night, putting draught excluders at the doors and switching on the electric fire.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

They are pointless if you are at work all day. I have lived in a property with storage heaters and only ever used them at the weekend. The property also had a coal fire where the coal was provided by the landlord for free which I used most of the time.

You don't need the landlords permission. Just stop using the storage heaters switch your electricity tariff to the best unit rate possible on a standard rate such as 10p/kWh for all units and use convector heaters whenever you want. They'll cost you about £10-£20 each. If you only ever use them in the evenings and weekends then you will save money against using the storage heaters. They'll be about 30-40% cheaper than your current peak secondary day rate which is probably around the 16p/kWh area.

Hi, i live in a flat with storage heaters. Let me tell you they are useless and expensive to run. I have bought free standing radiators from amazon and they do a much better job!
    Good luck!
