Replacing our boiler any good 'scrappage' deals on?

We really need to replace our boiler it is at least 27 years old and have recently found we are going to get some unexpected money so are going to go for it are there any national providers that have good deals on?

I did try googling it but all I came up with was about the old government boiler scrappage scheme which finished ages ago. I did find Bristish Gas have £400 off boilers but that was about it.

TIA

Have you had an RGI round who says its BER? You should. I propose to throw you on the scrapheap when you reach the ripeold age of 27 (I'm way older than that BTW but you get my drift I guess) just because you have reached/passed that birthday.

Trust your windfall on a local indie recommended by a source you trust.

Ha Ha. They add £ 400 to their already inflated prices just to be able to take it off again.

Thanks bengalknights I have 2 local guys coming to quote one that has given us some good advice recently and not charged us a penny so will probably get the job anyway and just wanted to see what a 'bigger' company would come up with.

Thanks for that helpful advice keystone, the boiler is old should be condemned and is not reliable and costs us a fortune each year so that coupled with the age is the reason we are going to replace it I just didn't think I needed to post an essay when all I wanted was a bit advice on providers? And for the record am much older than 27 myself too! I am not totally naive and know BG add money onto their boilers/prices and they will be way more than a local person but just wondered if there was anything worth looking at to make our money go further thought that was the whole point of a forum where you can ask advice for those that might know more than you???

Well no you didn't but the only reason you gave for replacement was its age. It may have been working perfectly well - I had no knowledge at the time of posting. If it is costing you a fortune than of course its time to replace it but there are many 20+ year old boilers out that cost £0 to run in annual maintenance and have got lots more years in them yet.

Yes thats why bengalknights advice to get three quotes is correct and which was repeated by myself. The only thing is that cheapest is not always best - hence my second post on the thread.

    Cheers

PS I was having a laugh about BG - don't take everything too seriously. :D

1 human year is worth 7 dog years.

Wonder what 27 human years works out in boiler years? lol
  • I have an old glow worm boiler and was looking to replace it as it's inefficient.

Happened to speak with a couple of heating engineer friends about this and they said don't bother. would take years and years to recoup the cost via the effeciency and they hate combi boilers saying they won't have them in their houses. They also said don't expect more than ten years on average out of a combi.

did the math and they were right. Get the boiler checked now and then to ensure it's healthy and have a CO detector but it runs fine and doesn't have too many complex working parts to go wrong.

when it does give up the ghost that's when I'll switch but probably not to a combi
As is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters.
