I think we just had to take along bank account details and proof of business i.e. business card and a couple of statments sent to our business address.0

No, just being self employed isnt enough.
The form is available at http://www.makro.co.uk/public/site/makro-uk/get/documents/mcc_gb/Assets/Store%20Images/Makro%20Application%20Form%20Nov%202011%20v2.pdf
It says for a sole trader you need HMRC correspondence and personal photographic ID. Seems they have gotten easier as they used to also want an invoice over the value of £500 or so but it doesnt seems to have anything like that now.0 -

i have ID, i have a letter from HMRC regarding NI contributions, would that work?I'm not a bloke! :rotfl:My real name is Sinead, Sid is my nickname :rotfl:0 -
we had to take proof of a business bank account, proof of business address ie. utlility bill, and personal ID iirc - but it may have changed as it was a while back.
Think we also set up DD with Booker for ease, and that also got us a brownie point for the account but again could be wrong as this account was referenced from the previous account at the last pub.I will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -

I applied to Makro about 10 years ago and there was no problem. I think I just wrote on a business letterhead. I was in the Yellow Pages though. But that was when you had to have a BT business account to get in Yellow Pages. Things must have changed a lot since then.
I still have my Makro account, but the last time I visited my local Makro, very few items seemed to be cheaper than I could get elsewhere, either online or in the high street.
Perhaps I need to do a little research on MSE to see what items are good value in Makro these days.0 -
One off items are never really much cheaper, tv's etc and they are not aimed at the proper trader, thats why joiners etc can get an account but rarely see a benefit.
To take full advantage of the trade prices you need to have a general store, such as a cafe, newsagents or corner shop etc, these customers can pick up their stock at real trade prices, there are also discounts available for these customers, the gold card is a proper trade card but you need to spend x amount every month to qualify for it, I use Makro and Booker all the time and you need to keep an eye on the deals, these can make a real difference, when your buying dozens of cases of products every week the the deals can save the trader a lot of money and help boost the profits.0 -
Have to agree that it used to be the case that if you bulk bought anything that it used to be much cheaper at Makro then you could get elsewhere. Some things are still like that but the gap has closed significantly on many things.
Deals in supermarkets or Makro can easily blow each other out the water (eg Makro had 72 Velvet or Andrex toilet rolls for about £8 (about 40 rolls ago))0
