That is a lot of thinking Shirley... shows advanced intelligence, but I like that in a woman
There must be an argument for fitting a PV array on the WNW facing roof. I was mulling the idea over with the surveyor prior to my install; he suggested it would never pay for itself, but I can't really see that. I accept it'll never make any money, but it'd have to break even eventually wouldn't it Shirl? It would... yes it would... wouldn't it? Oh tell me it's so or my name's not Cinders!
Oh dear, someone who shares my odd sense of humour, not sure if we are helping or hindering the Welsh cause!
Checked out WNW v's ESE for my house and got these figures from PVGIS all 1kWp at 10% losses and 30deg roof slope
South (0 degrees off south) 894
ESE (-70) 800
WNW (+110) 685
So WNW is 85% of ESE and 76% of South
Not too bad. Problem is, shading, so can only fit a single line of panels between chimney and bay window roof, so at best 1.5kWp of hybrid panels. Also would push me over 4kWp banding for FITs, and whilst it shouldn't affect generation peak, I'd still need DNO approval (I think). Anyway's will wait for an inverter to die, and prices to fall, hopefully in 10 years time, this could be done for £3k (panels and rails and scaffolding, labour etc). Fingers crossed.
I expect to lose money on it, and no FITs, but would like to maximise length of generation day. Currently generating till 4.45pm, but use the word generating in it's loosest form, at about 30watts. In Aug / Sept, was getting 200 to 400watts up to 7pm or later (from ESE systems), would be nice to get an extra kW on top!
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

That sense of humour comes from being Welsh I'm sure... a bit like the fuzzy head that always follows a Wales win in the 6 Nations.
Interesting figures you've come up with there. Definitely food for thought.Nothing was ever achieved without enthusiasm!0 -
I've been a recycling convert for a long, long time, but yes now I'm a solar pv convert too. I'm considering installing a small wind-turbine next, or possibly a small free-standing array to power my koi pond.
Funny you should say, but I dug up my lawn in favour of a veg patch - I'll have to lay turf now just so I can mow it in the sunshine!
Beggar me Buttons, we shall go to the ball! :rotfl:
You could always get a small electric cultivator!0
