Claiming for Mould damage!

Hi All!

This is my first time posting on here but im confused and could really do with some help!!

So 5 years ago i bought my flat ( Leasehold ) the year before i moved in they had all the roofes re-done and re-tiled.

4 years on i started to notice mould in our spare room, bedroom and bathroom, it wasnt any thing major so i just kept cleaning it off every couple of moths. Now its got really bad and our carpet and curtains are ruined. I also think its affecting our health in the bedroom as we always seem to be getting ill, colds etc.

I called our management agents over christmas and told them how bad it was - they sent out a builder ( they had more than 1 complaint about this ) the builder confirmed that there was a definate problem and it was because when the roof was repaired they failed to put any internal or external ventilation points in. Any how, the management agents have now instructed a builder to do this.

I called my insurance to try and claim for the contents but have said they wont cover it as we 1st noti9ced the mould a while ago! They said i should be able to claim from the management agents as its there fault and they have accepted liability by appointing a builder to fix it

I called the environmental health but they said they couldnt help.

Does anyone know how i would go about this and if it is even possible? I really need to get rid of our mouldy carpets and curtains for our healths sake more than anything!! :(

Thanks!

    If the management company are being awkward then go and see the CAB (wash my mouth out!!) they won't have any useful advice for you but they may have a list of solicitors dealing with this sort of thing. Go and get a free half hour from one of them. Your case will be specific. There is no point in lower deck lawyers havin' a go on here.

    Beware of:

    The builder spinning a yarn to "talk the job up" in respect of available ventilation and;
    Suggestions that your lifestyle is contributing substantially to the humidity/condensation problem which it will be unfortunately.
