Text this number to see when the next bus is
Hello, not sure how widespread this is. On the 125 stagecoach route between bolton and preston I've noticed they've replaced some timetables you see at bus stops with text this number to see when the next bus is which costs 25p.
Surely this is not right. They increase the bus fares every other week and now this. If we don't complain now we'll see other bus companies doing the same thing

Here's the timetable. Print it off and you won't have to text.

Where I live you have the printed timetables, displays at bus stops with the next arrivals for each service, a text number to find out the next bus or oyu can use the internet to find out.0

Leeds has it and its brilliant but it only costs the same as a standard text. I never have a timetable and who can believe them anyway!
The bus stop number is in my phone as a template text message. Text the number from home and walk to the stop five minutes before the bus is due. As it uses bus tracking it's far more accurate than a timetable.0 -
the text number is nothing to do with the bus companies its the passenger transport executive (basicaly the council). Stops are regulated and maintained by them not the bus companies.0

I have a few stop numbers programmed as favorites on my phone and it's a good system. The only problem is, at least in S Yorkshire, it stops being real time when you really need it, for example when it snows and some routes terminate early. The system defaults to the timetable which has become a work of fiction. You would think that bus tracking would cope with it, but apparently not.0

For some reason GMPTE hasn't yet invested in these electronic displays that everywhere else seems to have. Luckily I live on a route with a bus every few seconds usually. I agree with the OP though, I'm too tight to use such a service. Why should I pay extra to find out if my bus/train is running late, when I'm already paying the fare for the service to be on time?0

do people not have bus trackers everywhere now?
we have web/android/iphone apps here
plus a lot of stops have the electronic displays0
