Maybe I don't see the logic here?

PSNI make people redundant with a BIG payout

Grafton recruitment (ONLY PSNI Supplier) give most jobs to retired PSNI people

Then have a look at the health service......

No surprise here, several large businesses including banks used Grafton and other agencies in exactly the same manner over the past decade.

The police are wanting to close my local nick in the Dee as well as others, meaning longer response times down the peninsula as well as a reduced police presence in the town. How many stations like ours would be saved by this money not being wasted on one of the worst recruiting agencies going?...

Given that there is an increased policing need in this country owing to terrorist activity by parts of the minority population, it is entirely reasonable for them to be spending this money.

What is unreasonable is to rip up the final remnant of a 200 year old policing service, the RUC, staff it out with undertrained individuals who get the job on the grace of their religion, one of whom attended a swearing in ceremony wearing a badge of the IRA, without democratic consent or indeed reason save the appeasement of murderers.

The paying of this money is a consequence of the patton proposals and the GFA 14 years ago - but hey, you voted for it.

I am a bit supporter of the police and am always really happy to see them out and about... but the upper echelons of the force sound like they have their heads right up their !!!!!!. The force is stretched, there is no present low level recruitment, there is no promotion... yet money is thrown all over the place where it really need not be. This story is a great example of that... there has been a recruitment freeze for a significant part of this 3 year period! How many new recruits have they actually taken on over this period? How much has it cost per recruit?
    Always overestimating...

"Oh wouldn't it be great if it was like this all the time?" No, it fuc king wouldn't.

How could we have continued with a police force drawn almost entirely from one side of a divided community in conflict?
They had to pay off some of the existing members to make room for new catholic members and to make the police force representative of the communities they were supposed to police. It would have taken who knows how long for that to have happened naturally.

I thought that there may have been a time when policing suffered because of the loss of experienced staff but, seeing as they were all rehired anyway, that couldn't have been the case.

I have two friends who were in the police, one has now left & is in the Austrailian Police & the other is in the Met Police, reason they left was because they felt let down by the powers that be & the service was going to suffer. Both of them are very happy & wishing they did it sooner!!

Now then a public sector worker takes early retirement, with a massive lump sum and then goes back to a similar job soon after as a contractor or consultant or as a paid employee and people here think that is unusal?

The only reason that this has become so public with the PSNI, is because of the Policing Boards which were set up for different reasons from financially accountablity, but it seems that the financial accountanablity has brought out some interesting details.

How does it fit the (allegedely) under-represented side of the community to have an inexperienced Catholic rather than an experienced Protestant constable when, for example, they're being mugged, burgled, shot at, conned, defrauded, subject to intimidation, threats of violence/murder/death? Oh it doesn't does it? But just as long as we can tick a box stating we have "x no of RCs" in the police we can sleep better at night.

I look forward to the day when the GAA, NICS, CCMS, RC charitable organisations etc are compelled under statute to force out old timers for less able Protestants, Muslims, Jews, Gays etc to help the Nationalists come to terms with diversity.

    After all it's just confidence-building.
