Home address black listed for fraud

Home address black listed for fraud Hi Help,
I have been trying to book a few days away at a Premier Inn using their online booking.
The site would not take my card or my wife’s card for payment.
Having talked to the issuing banks for both cards they had both authorised the payments and as far as they are concerned all was well.
Premier Inn still would not take payment.
It turns out that as I had a card swiped some years ago and than stopped and the account closed A new account opened by the bank. It seems that the address that the card was registered to at the time of the fraud were we still live and have done so for 38 years is now listed as associated with card fraud. Therefore as far as Premier Inns are concerned no card at that address will be allowed to
Book rooms on the site.
Has anyone heard of this or of a list of addresses associated with fraud.
I’ve tried CPP, Experian, and Barclaycard Fraud centre for advice and none have heard of this either.
Anyone got any ideas

  • As far as I know, addresses can't be blacklisted.

I suggest you request a copy of your statutory reports from all three credit reference agencies: Equifax, Experian & CallCredit - there may be pa fraud marker against your files.

CIFAS do put markers against addresses and this information is available to CIFAS members who view your credit file. I see no evidence that Premier Inn are members of CIFAS though and they may just be viewing their own historical records instead.

You may have to try Travelodge instead, or get an anonymous prepaid card, where you can use a false address!

They can't industry-wide but some companies (eg catalogue companies) run their own internal blacklists.

PIs don't black list at all. I don't know why it won't let you book a room though...how many times have you tried to book? Maybe it's a system error?
Just had a thought...what type of card are you trying to book with? Some debit cards can't be used to book online.

CIFAS will not be involved with this- it is just some internal hotel policy, in the past someone has given there address and done a runner without paying a bill so as a conscience of not being stung for a second time they just say no.

CIFAS members (private companies and public bodies) share information on fraud via the CIFAS scheme. CIFAS can put a fraud marker on your credit files with each of the three credit reference agencies.

If a CIFAS fraud marker is on your credit files you may want to discuss this with the credit reference agencies and with CIFAS.

In your case, Premier Inn would not have done a credit check when you used you card to pay them, so it is unclear if there is any CIFAS markers on your credit file - but it is worth checking, otherwise you could be refused at some time in the future if you apply for credit.

If you have any fraud insurance policy - standalone/with your card/on home insurance it may well be worth seeking advice from them too.

    For an explanation of CIFAS...

Sorry, for my typing - "pa fraud marker" should just read: "a fraud marker".

CIFAS members pool information on fraud. Even though no credit check would have been made for this transaction, that does not mean there will be no CIFAS markers on file. If the OP has had their identity stolen in some way, there is a strong possibility of there being CIFAS markers.
