Nearly new cars

Hi all
Looking at spending between £4,000 - £5,00 on a newish car.
We started looking at a Ford Ka close by and got us thinking.
There are 3 of us who would drive it. Economy and a decent car are in conflict. We want one that doesnt costa lot to maintain or run, but dont want a pram, if you know what I am saying (although McClaren make decent cars as well as prams I might add).
Are there any good sites that specialise in delivery mileage cars? The ones they put through the books and sell cheap?
Anybody got any recommendations on makes and models?
Thanks
Mike

Hello mike1976
Your thread will be better placed in the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board, so I'll move it across.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

What do you mean by "not a pram"? Do you want something with five doors, decent space and comfort, etc.? Any priorities? How are you going to be using the car? What's the oldest you would consider?
£5k won't get you much other than a basic supermini on an 06 plate; but then you'd be surprised how good even basic superminis are now.Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350

Buy it, we are on our 2nd, after I crashed the last one at 60mph.
You can put them flat out into any corner and they will hold the road. The return 35-40mpg, they are cheap to insure.
£2000 will buy a 2001 plate onwards.0 -
We just bought Toyota Yaris 53 reg for 4800 from the Toyota dealer, including 1 year RAC cover, 1 year warranty, carpet mats, 6 months road tax and nearly full tank of petrol. The car is fantastic and I prefer it to Ford KA. My friend has KA and there is so little space in the back.
What I like about Yaris is that back seats can be slided forward if you need to transport something big (they can also be folded). I gave a lift to a colleague to the station the other day and he had a huge suitcase - we fitted it in the boot flat after sliding the seats forward.
I also like the speedometer....
Just to add - the model we got is T3 1.0 petrol, the fuel consumption on mine (actual) is about 42-25mpg (the official combined is about 50, but then I am driving in town all the time). The insurance is cheap as well and the road tax is £100 a year.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
