Halifax switching team

Anyone else had any issues when switching to a Halifax current account?

I've recently switched from RBS, and so far this month only four of my dd have been taken (nearly all of them are usually taken on the 1st). I've spent the best part of two hours checking the rest of them. I've had missed payments for my TV license, Sky and Virgin Media. I've been on the phone to all of these and they've told me there's no missed payment charge or negative impact on credit history, so I've paid the balance off on the TV license and Virgin, and Sky are going to take a double payment next month. The one I'm more worried about is my mortgage with RBS. They've advised that they tried to take payment on the 1st of the month as normal, but it has yet to confirm on the system if this has gone through, can take 3-5 days. If it does not go through they will try again in 10 days, with a £35 charge. Having spoken to Halifax, they've advised that usually the direct debit would show up instantly and there's nothing showing for the first, but to phone back tomorrow if it has not shown on my online account by then. He also gave me a number for the switching team for any problems with charges.

Does anyone know if it is correct that there should be no late or missed payments entered onto my credit history? Also, if I were to overpay the mortgage this month by the full amount would this cancel the need for a £35 charge? All questions I should have asked on the phone, I know, but it's amazing the number of things you think to ask after hanging up.
