How do I block up a doorway?

Options
As the title suggests, where do I start

Basically, I have a spare doorway in my living room and am planning to block it up but is there anything I need to do before removing the door?

TIA

On some older properties the door frame held up the brickwork above the door. On later properties there should be no problem on an internal wall, in removing the frame work back to brick but be careful not to dislodge the bricks above or you may have to replace the bricks that come loose above the doorway.

most would put a 4x2 frame in place and a couple of transommes and use plasterboard, then plaster over it. This is best in case the next owner might want to remove it at a later date.

brick or block is the best method but should be 'Tied in' to the existing and then plastered.

The wall surrounding the frame is all plasterboard and stud frames so I assume that the easiest thing to do would to build a frame, put it in place and then whack some plasterboard onto it.

Is there anything I need to know about plasterboard? I've never used the stuff myself :o

Has to be the right way round.

Use screws not nails. Screw about every 6 inches.

Use a couple of crossbearers and screw into these too.

Wickes do them but be careful - you'll see why.

Set cordless screwdriver to about 5 so as not to screw them in too much.

When you cut it use stanley knife on one side then snap the board along that line and stanley the 'Hinge'.

    It'll make sense you'll see.
