Bit of advise please re: collie pup.

OK, Skye, our female collie, is now 6 months old and apart from the first week of howling every night is now an absolute angel. However for the last few days she has been off her food, ( although still eating small treats), a bit mopey and not charging around so much. I also came home from work this morning after 3 hours and our carpet around the door has been shredded. Something she has never done before.
She is still happy to go for walks and still chases the ball when we throw it. Its been a long time since I had a !!!!! and am wondering if it could be a sign she is about to come into season. No signs of it as such except her change in behaviour.
I will say she has 3 walks a day, 1 really long off her lead and ball chasing and she is only ever on her own for a maximum of 4 hours, something she has always been ok with.
She will be neutered after her first season and obviously i will take her to the vets for a check over if still not right, but she is still drinking ok. Jusy wondered what you guys thought.
Thanks
Nicky

She could be coming into season. Like a lot of females, she could be just hormonal
She is going into the teenage stage though, so be prepared for more shredding, and destruction! 0 -
Thank you. I will keep an eye on her and see if she starts attracting male callers, lol!! Hubby is taking her for a long hike over the hills tomorrow so she may work up an appetite. She has eaten a bit tonight and is playing with her toys a bit but every now and then looks really sad

Thanks for the advise.

Nicky she sounds like she is coming into season. Perhaps lay off the long walk? You dont want to knacker her and if she is off her food she wont refuel properly which can make her feel even more down in the dumps.
The season will last about three weeks and its the last week that she is most receptive to the dogs so this is when she should stay on the lead for walks and definatley steer clear of places with large volumes of dog walkers.
My old collie 'girl' (seems we cant type the B word!!) would get to week three of a season and be off
99% of the other times she was exceptionally well behavioured competing agility/ flyball/ obedience and trials but hormones would take over for those few days :rotfl:
And also there is nothing worse than owning a dog who gets the scent of a 'girl' in season, no matter how well behaved they are its a nightmare getting them to listen and it makes it worse if the 'girl' is off lead as well
Goo dluck .. oh and its approx three months after the season they can be spayed, it lets everything internal calm down so the vet isnt operating on organs so flushed with blood.
Good luck, spaying is the way forward ... no more puppies in this country required please :TAnt. :cool:0 -
Thanks Ant.
She did go for quite a long run today and has had a bit of tea. Hubby took her over the hills where he has access to forestry tracks so he would stop his truck and she would have a good old mooch around. Bit of snow around and she really enjoyed herself. Still quiet to night but will see how she is over weekend. Will be just our luck she is in season week after next when its half term and we are all going to Cornwall for the week. Will have to keep her on her long leash on the beaches if so.
Thanks again
