Right hand drive imported peugeot

I've just bought this car from a friend who bought it in Cyprus whilst in the Forces. The company he gets his insurance from seemed quite expensive to me but I'm struggling to get it cheaper because firms who insure imports appear to be few and far between. There are no modifications and I have the certificate of european conformity with it. Has any one any ideas of places I can try please?

Try a broker, I am sure you should be able to get a competitive quote somewhere.
  • I've tried a few on-line but get stuck when it asks the 'version' and 'trim' because my reg doc shows the cypriot version which doesn't match any in the list. I then ring up only to be told they can't find it either and I'm back to square one!
  • I imported a VW Polo from Holland in 1999, I had decided what car I wanted from the UK brochures and just went to Holland to order one with the same spec (saved £4k). Whenever I insured it I explained it was built to UK spec and gave the version that was closest (CL). I never had any trouble insuring it, used Confused.com last time, I remember there were a couple that did not want to insure imports at all but have had it insured with Churchill, Admiral, Frizzell etc. Try calling the insurance company and then get them to give you the internet discount because their site can't handle your request.

  • You wouldn't know where I could find out what model it's equivalent to would you? I know it's a 206 but the Reg Doc doesn't say what type eg GLX
  • You should explain where the vehicle is from not give the nearest equivalent UK model.

A couple of years ago, I was going to buy a Peugeot which was imported from Cyprus it was an "SX" Model. There was no SX model on sale in the UK.

When I tried to get cover, it was classed as a grey import and therefore companies I spoke to wouldnt insure me.

I would try direct line car insurance. I have had a couple of imported cars and a few years ago had a real problem insuring one. nowadays i find its not a problem and i am currently with Direct Line.
