Afternoon all,

Looking like my dad's old Thompson router has packed in and I'm looking for a new one, his broadband is via Talk Talk and the old router is conected to the phoneline. I'd seen the Netgear Wireless WNR1000 N150 in the argos book and have reserved one. Only problem being I've just checked online and noticed it says cable router. Am now guessing that this is just for Cable customer ie Virgin Media and its not going to work on my dad's setup??

Guessing one of these would be more suitable?http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9255100/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7COffice%2C+PCs+and+phones%7C14418968/c_2/2%7C14418968%7CWireless+networking%7C14419015/c_3/3%7Ccat_14419015%7CModem+routers%7C14419018.htm

  • Hi Dave,

I would speak to talktalk and say your router died and they may just give you a new router free of charge. Otherwise.....

Spot on, the connection with talktalk will be adsl/phone line so either of the routers you suggested will work fine.

Your need your talktalk broadband username/password and put those on to the new router.

My parents have talktalk and the username is phonenumber@talktalk.net e.g. 01273456789@talktalk.net

and whatever password was put on the account, if you call talktalk and obtain these.

You are right a cable router is no good.

    You need an ADSL one.

I have talk talk and one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0031SUB4S -

It works really well, replacing an old G router. I could never get the "free" talktalk one to work that well, some years ago.
